SACS Steering Committee formed with two subcommittees: Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and Institutional Effectiveness. Members represent all schools and departments of the University.
October 2, 2006 Topic Generation, Round 1
SACS Steering Committee members asked to work with their schools and departments to generate 5 ideas for possible QEP topics.
October 18, 2006 Topic Generation, Round 2
Six themes were gleaned from Round 1 and sent to the SACS Steering Committee to prioritize the top three.
Late October, 2006
Top three priorities were shared with Dr. Robertson and the board of trustees. Global theme affirmed.
December 1, 2006
QEP Subcommittee meets to discuss general topic of international, global, and world nations.
January 15 and 15, 2007
Schools meet and give individual QEP process reports to consultant, Dr. Crump.
March 15, 2007
Dr. Hunt, Dean Baron, Dr. Palmer and Dr. Rehfuss remind committee to involve students in the QEP.
April 9, 2007
The QEP Committee meets to discuss ownership and international focus. Dr. Shauna Tonkin presents a report on how Deans are incorporating international initiatives into their schools.
April 19, 2007
All faculty meeting discusses the QEP and how global interest will become a Regent project.
April 30, 2007
All faculty/staff meeting addresses QEP and individual involvement.
May 2007
Representatives from Regent will visit Decatur, GA to obtain an official timeline from SACS.
May 15, 2007
One page global summary due to Dr. Carle Hunt, Dr. Shauna Tonkin, and Patricia Hammersley.
June-July 2007
Schools generate university-wide and school key ideas relating to student learning
August 17, 2007 Topic Clarification and Naming, Round 3
All Faculty Retreat on the QEP. Emphasis will be on ownership and development of Regent's international focus. Key factors to remember as a QEP is considered:
- Student achievement
- Mission-directed
- Focused topic with measurable results
- Broad-based involvement of constituents
- Institutional capability to complete the QEP
Faculty submit topics to be voted on by the University.
September 2007
QEP Chair visits each school faculty for briefing and questions regarding the QEP information to update.
October 12, 2007
QEP Committee convenes to select ten global initiative topics from those that were introduced by faculty at the faculty retreat.
November 1, 2007
The top choices of topics are voted upon by units and departments submitted to Patricia Hammersley.
December 2007
Three faculty members create a literature review on the nature and implications of the term "global." (Dr. Dail Fields, Marta Lee, and Fred Rovai.)
January 22 , 2007 Phase II
QEP Subcommittee is formed and meets to discuss the Faculty Literature Review in more depth. Discussed three main areas of the literature review that seems appropriate to the QEP: global reach, global perspective, and global impact. This conclusion to be presented to the full QEP steering committee.
February 15, 2008
Dr.s Tonkin and Rovai present to the full steering committee a conceptual framework and a program methodology. A Phase II marketing subcommittee and writing subcommittee is formed. Shauna Tonkin and Fred Rovai were appointed co-chairs of the writing team with Carle Hunt and Alan Arroyo supplying support. Sherri Stocks will lead the marketing committee.

Writing of the QEP was started, but the group found they need to narrow the objectives more.
April 29, 2008
Shauna Tonkin presents the focused goals and objectives of the QEP to the executive team and gets approval to begin writing the first draft of QEP. The final report will be 75 pages of text and 25 pages of appendices.
July 2008
The fiscal year begins. Strategic Plan should include reference to the QEP.
