M.A. in Government – Political Communication

The Master of Arts in Government with a concentration in Political Communication is offered on campus and online through the Robertson School of Government to students seeking to advance as media gatekeepers and policymakers. You'll gain a solid foundation in research methods, American politics, international relations and Christian foundations of government. Then, build your expertise in the founding principles of democracy, formulating social media strategies, and evaluating best practices for journalistic writing.

  • Be prepared to produce targeted, relevant public relations messages that address today's social issues ethically and responsibly.
  • Determine how media influence can and should be carried out within a Christian worldview.
  • Learn to influence citizens through both conventional and social media, and respond quickly and accurately as principled media representatives.

Prerequisites:

Applicants for the Master of Arts in Government must possess an earned undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.

 

Application Process:

Step 1: Online Application

Applicants must submit the Regent University Online Application.

PLEASE NOTE: The Robertson School of Government will not be able to view your application until the $50 application fee is received by the university.

Step 2: $50 Application Fee

Option 1: Pay the $50 application fee online during the application process, via our Miscellaneous Payments Form, or by check or money order mailed to Regent University, Enrollment Support Services, 1000 Regent University Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

Option 2: Attend a Robertson School of Government on-campus or online information session to learn how to streamline your application process, discover financial aid resources and waive your $50 application fee.

Step 3: Submit your Unofficial College Transcripts*

We are able to examine and view your unofficial transcript from a U.S.-based school, which indicates successful completion of a bachelor's degree program, in order to review you for an admissions decision. Please submit your unofficial transcript to our Admissions Office by email to apply@regent.edu using the subject line: RSG Masters Application Pieces.

Non-U.S. transcripts must be evaluated by an NACES-approved company. For further details, please review the International Admissions Checklist on the International Students Admissions page.

*Upon conditional acceptance to the program by review of unofficial transcripts, Regent University's Admissions Office will attempt to obtain your official transcripts from your U.S. degree-granting institution, which indicate successful completion of a bachelor's degree program. We will notify you if your previous institution will not release transcripts directly to us.

Step 4: Personal Goal Statement

Submit a personal goal statement demonstrating an interest in a degree program from the Robertson School of Government. Please email a completed personal goal statement (in a Word document) to the Admissions Office at apply@regent.edu using the subject line: RSG Masters Application Pieces.

  1. Describe your professional experiences and career goals and how graduate-level coursework from the Robertson School of Government will help you facilitate your objectives.
  2. Considering your personal, spiritual and professional background, why have you chosen Regent as the place to pursue your degree?

Step 5: Resume (Optional)

Submit a current and thorough resume; which provides details of your education, employment and activities. Please list your extracurricular, community, or other activities in the order of importance to you. Give a brief description of your involvement, including any special responsibilities or leadership positions held.

Step 6: GRE or LSAT Score (Optional)

Graduate school entrance exams (GRE, LSAT, or MAT) are not required. However, applicants who have taken a graduate school entrance exam are encouraged to have their official scores sent directly to Regent University by the testing agency. Submission of scores may strengthen an application file and may increase access to scholarship opportunities.
