Alumnus Returning as Executive Vice President

| May 24, 2011

Dr. Paul Bonicelli

Dr. Paul Bonicelli, a 1987 graduate of Regent University, will return to Regent as executive vice president beginning July 15. In this position, Bonicelli will oversee Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, and will administer budgets of Regent's eight schools, the University Library and the division of Professional and Continuing Education. Bonicelli will also serve on the faculty of the Robertson School of Government.

"Dr. Bonicelli is a proven administrator who loves the Lord and loves Regent University. We are grateful for his willingness to join our team and look forward to advancing our mission and vision in exciting, God-empowered ways through his leadership," said Regent President Carlos Campo.

Bonicelli will oversee academic policy and priorities, establish quality standards for the student body, and help maintain Regent's Christ-centeredness and educational excellence. He will also oversee the recruiting, hiring, retention and performance of top-quality Christian faculty who excel in teaching, service and research, and oversee the university's promotion and tenure process.

Most recently, Bonicelli has served as provost and professor of government at Houston Baptist University, where he has been responsible for policies and personnel relating to academics, information technology services, institutional research and effectiveness, compliance, student life, spiritual life and the campus police force. His extensive career includes a presidential appointment as assistant administrator for the United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Bureau of Latin America and the Caribbean and a White House appointment as deputy assistant administrator of USAID's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance.

"I look forward with great enthusiasm and joy to joining the Regent family," Bonicelli said. "As an alumnus, I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for how He used Regent University in my life 25 years ago to renew my faith and make me more fit for His service. I am greatly encouraged by the vision of the board and the leadership of Dr. Campo, and it is my prayerful hope that I will honor God and advance His kingdom as I serve alongside my new colleagues. It is great to come home!"

Prior to joining Houston Baptist, Bonicelli spent several years at Patrick Henry College in Virginia as dean of academic affairs and chairman of the Department of Government. He also served as a staff member on the U.S. House of Representatives International Relations Committee and taught at Grove City College in Pennsylvania.

Bonicelli received a master's degree in public policy from Regent. He has a doctorate from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis.
