Sara Jane Arnett, Army wife of Captain Samuel Arnett, of the 221st Military Police Detachment out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, was awarded a presidential scholarship at the Thursday, May 5, Heroes at Home Military Spouse of the Year luncheon. Held at The Founders Inn and Spa, this yearly event recognizes the dedication, support and leadership example among military spouses, which is key to the successes of the nation's service members.
Regent President Carlos Campo presented Arnett with a full-tuition scholarship to Regent's undergraduate school or any of its seven graduate schools.
"Mrs. Arnett is simply a treasure to all the military families she serves and an asset to our community," President Campo said. "We are looking forward to her time with us as a student—her servant's heart will be inspiring."
In addition to raising two boys, Arnett serves as a Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader to her husband's unit. The FRG acts as a liaison between the unit and the families and provides targeted support to spouses while the unit is deployed. Arnett organizes events for the spouses in her husband's unit, keeps in contact with the families of deployed soldiers, and works with Army Community Services and other resources to make sure the families' needs are met.
The Heroes at Home award program began five years ago in conjunction with the annual celebration of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, established in 1984, and is designed to recognize and thank the military spouses who support the active duty members of the Hampton Roads community.
