Divinity Student Receives Award for First Book

Regent University School of Divinity student Darren Shearer recently won first place in the "Christian Living" category of the Christian Choice Book Awards contest for his book In You God Trusts: The Five Domains of Personal Responsibility. "This award is confirmation that readers are looking for Bible-based books that will help them find balance and fulfillment in the most practical aspects of daily living," said Shearer.

The concept for the book was born out of Shearer's time in the Air Force. While deployed to Kuwait, he regularly met with other airmen to mentor each other in five areas of personal responsibility: vocation, mind, relationships, body and finances. In You God Trusts expands on these areas of personal responsibility and challenges readers to explore the relationship between personal responsibility and faith.

As a divinity student studying practical theology, Shearer received guidance from faculty throughout the writing and publishing process. Several Regent students were also involved with the book by designing the cover, building the book's website, financing the project, and a Regent student organization event sponsored Shearer's first book signing. "This book is a tribute to the outstanding friends and mentors I have had throughout my life, especially while here at Regent University," he said.

The book, published in 2009, is Shearer's first. The Christian Choice Book Awards is sponsored by Xulon Press and was open to all self-published authors who released a Christian book in 2009-2010.
