Dr. Joseph Umidi has transitioned into the position of interim dean of Regent University's School of Divinity (DIV) as of Tuesday, July 1. Umidi, who began teaching at Regent as an adjunct faculty member in 1985 and became an assistant professor the following year, has been a mainstay in the school for nearly three decades, and has shaped students through teaching and mentoring.
"During his long tenure with Regent, Dr. Umidi has been instrumental in helping to develop much of the curriculum in the School of Divinity, as well as teaching, mentoring and influencing thousands of students. He is a respected leader both on campus and in the church generally, and he's well-equipped to guide the school as interim dean," said Dr. Paul Bonicelli, Regent's executive vice president.
Umidi has an extensive background in leadership coaching and discipleship training. At Regent, he has taught many courses, including Church and Ministry, Christian Education, Leader's Life and Values, Leadership Coaching, Church Plant: Models and Methods, and Ministry Coaching.
Most recently, Umidi has served as the school's director of field education and will continue in that role, in which he develops, approves and helps supervise internships for students.
"I love teaching and working with students. Every week, I ask my students to share transformational stories–how what they're learning in class is impacting their lives and the lives of others around them," Umidi said.
He has authored numerous articles and books dealing with leadership and personal, organization and community transformation. He is also founder and president of Lifeforming Leadership Coaching, Inc., where he and other certified consultants have established training centers in the U.S. and some 20 other countries that design customized processes for sustainable change, visioning and decision-making, and creativity in the workplace.
Umidi received a doctor of ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, master of divinity degree from Acadia Divinity College and a bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College.
