Library Dean Inducted as President of Catholic Library Association

Dean Sara Baron.

She serves Regent University's students, faculty and staff as dean of the University Library by giving informational guidance to those in the midst of their academic pursuits. Now, Dr. Sara Baron, has a new ministering opportunity, as she moves into her position as president of the Catholic Library Association (CLA).

The CLA—established in 1921—is an international organization which offers opportunities in professional development, networking and educational experience for its members. It also provides fellowship for those seeking librarianship as a ministering opportunity.

Baron was initiated into her role as the organization's 45th president at the CLA Annual Convention in Houston, Texas. During her "blessing in" ceremony, Baron explained to her constituents that the scripture guiding her two-year tenure as president stems from Mark 5:16, as she encouraged attendees to "let their light shine."

Baron has been a member of the CLA since 1996, and has served in multiple leadership positions within the organization. She attributes her time spent as a dedicated member within the CLA to her philosophy of using her gifts as a librarian as a ministering tool.

"The CLA has helped form my own perspective of library ministry and serving others in their information needs for many years," said Baron. "And it's an honor to give back to the organization and help as we move closer to our 100-year anniversary."

Baron also hopes to strengthen the core values of the CLA by establishing a strong community of fellowship with its members and allowing others to live out their calling, all-the-while acknowledging the Catholic faith that guides their work.
