Fulfillment Services (ILL)

Hold requests, purchase requests, digitization, ILL, we do it all.

Welcome

Welcome to Regent University Library's Fulfillment Services!

  • If you can't find an article or book in the online Regent collection, now you can request it through Primo!
  • To use ILL, conduct a search in Primo, then click on the title of a source we don't have and the "Get It for me from other libraries" link in the source record or the "Still Didn't Find What You Need?" link at the top of Primo
  • We will do our best to get sources for you from another library.
  • If you are distance student, staff, or faculty, we can find books or chapters for you in our library and send them to you electronically or physically using a "Hold Request," "Request Regent's Copy," or "Request PDF" (for just one chapter or section)
  • Any student or professor can request a section or a chapter of a book be turned into a digital PDF (for research or use in courses)

You may contact us for assistance or give us a call at 757-352-4424. Thank you. See the instructions below.

How to Use Fulfillment Services (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Instructions (For Items We Don't Own):

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) has changed! Now, all requests for items that Regent doesn’t own will go through Primo, which you’ve already been using to do your research.

If you search for something, and we don’t have it, you can click “Get it for me from other libraries” and you will see one of the following options:

If it’s an article, you can request it from another library by clicking this button:

If it’s a book, or a book chapter, you can request the book or a scan of the chapter by clicking one of these buttons:

Articles and book chapters will be delivered to you via your Regent email, and will also be available through your Primo account, under “My Requests.”

NOTE: If you aren’t sure where your requests are located, look for the “Sign In” button on the upper right-hand corner of the Primo page. Once you are signed in, you can click on your name to see everything about your library account!

Physical books and AV items that you request from another library will be available for pickup within 7-10 days at the Resource Desk in the Library.

For Distance students, we will first see if an eBook is available. If no eBook is available and you would like a physical copy mailed to you, make sure you add your mailing address to the Notes field when you fill out your request. When finished with the book, you will mail it back to: Fulfillment Services - Regent University Library - 1000 Regent University Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

What if you can’t find a specific title in a Primo search? Fill out a request form manually by clicking on the following message in the white box at the top of Primo, after you conduct your search:

Document Delivery: Requesting Print Books Through Mail & Chapters Through Email (For Books We Own):

Book Requests and PDF Delivery for Distance Students & Faculty Not in the Hampton Roads Area:

If you would like to request that a book Regent owns be mailed to you, you will use the Hold Request or Request Regent's Copy option and then choose Personal Delivery as the pickup option (make sure to put your address in the note field).  You will mail them back to: Fulfillment Services - Regent University Library - 1000 Regent University Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.

You can also use the Digitization option to Request PDF scans of chapters or articles that we have in print form. By copyright law, we cannot scan the whole book.

Holds for Local Students and Faculty:

You can place a Hold on a book or AV item, and we’ll find it for you and put it on the Hold Shelf for you to pick up at the Resource Desk.

Local students and faculty can also use the Digitization option to request that we scan chapters of books and articles that we have in print form. Faculty can then post PDFs from the library in their courses.

Worried about your old requests from ILLiad? You can still login to your ILLiad account to view your past requests (Login at the bottom of this page).

Overview

InterLibrary Loan is a library-to-library borrowing network that provides access to research materials beyond an individual institution’s collection.  Libraries will generally lend physical books, CDs, and DVDs but not textbooks, other audiovisual formats, reference or multivolume works, archival material, or items in special collections.  Articles, dissertations, and theses are lent electronically; if the original is print, a dissertation or thesis request may be refused.

Regent policies

  • All current students, faculty, and staff may use Fulfillment Services (ILL).

  • When a book cannot be borrowed from our network, we attempt to purchase it.  Unless you specifically note that you want a physical copy, we will look for an ebook first.

  • All physical loans must be returned directly to the Library: local patrons via the Resource Desk or the book drops, distance patrons by mail.

  • Any student or professor can request a digital copy of a section or chapter from a print book, for research or use in courses, so long as it is less than 10% of the total pagination.

You may contact us for assistance by email at ill@regent.edu or by phone at 757-352-4424.

Distance Students

Books: Distance Students who do not live in the area can request that items owned by Regent University Library be mailed to them. This is called a Hold Request or, for just part of a book, a Digitization/PDF of Chapter or Book Section request in Primo. For a Hold Request, provide your address in the Comments section of the request. For a PDF request, indicate the page numbers you want scanned (no more than 10% of the book).

Additionally, Fulfillment Services (ILL) will borrow print books that are unavailable in Regent Library from other libraries and mail them to you, but only if these books are not available to purchase as an eBook. Please keep in mind that items borrowed from other libraries are first delivered to Regent Library, before being shipped to your address, which will result in a shorter check-out period.  Due to the shorter check-out period, you may want to consider using your local public library ILL department for this service.

Returns:  All returns must be mailed back to Regent University (Fulfillment Services (ILL) - Regent University Library - 1000 Regent University Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464). You are responsible for return postage on all items that are shipped to you. We recommend that you ensure the package is properly secured and use a courier with tracking and insurance for returning all items. Do not use Library Rate / Media Mail to return books.

PDF Copies of Articles or Book Chapters: Just like other students, Distance Students can request PDF copies of articles and book chapters by requesting them through Fulfillment Services (ILL) (for items Regent Library doesn't own), or by using the Digitization option in Primo (for items that are available in the Regent Library).
