Professor Janis Kirkland directs Regent University’s Wealth Management and Financial Planning curriculum, which allows students to earn a Master of Arts in Law and become qualified to sit for the examination required to become a Certified Financial Planner. She also is assistant director of Legal Analysis, Research and Writing for the law school. She has taught Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing for the law school since 1997, and also has taught Environmental Law.

Kirkland is a graduate of T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, where she was Valedictorian of her law class, was on the law review, and was recipient of a number of academic awards. She views her first year writing class as foundational to her law school success, which has supplied her with a passion for teaching basic legal analysis and writing to entering law students.

Prior to teaching, Kirkland practiced environmental law for Hunton and Williams for a number of years and worked as an analytical chemist prior to attending law school. She remains interested in environmental issues and edits cases for EPA Administrative Law Reporter and for Chemical Waste Litigation Reporter.
