Bio

Professor James Murphy received his B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1974. He received his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1977.

After graduating from law school, Murphy served as a Captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps from 1977-1980. Murphy then practiced law in Iowa from 1980-1989, during which time he was twice elected as Kossuth County Attorney, the chief law enforcement position in that county. Subsequently, Murphy moved to Kentucky to work for the legal project of the organization Catholics United for Life, which later evolved into working with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).  Murphy has been ACLJ’s vice president for administration since 1992.

Murphy served as associate dean for administration at Regent's School of Law from 1997-2015. He now serves the law school as director of the M.A. in Law Program, as its business affairs manager, and as a lecturer on the faculty. Murphy has taught Drafting Contracts, Nonprofit, Tax-Exempt Organizations, and Constitutional Criminal Procedure.
