Blackboard 9.1 Frequently Asked Questions
What web browser should I use?
The IT HelpDesk highly recommends using Mozilla Firefox 4.0 or higher. Firefox is an alternative web browser that runs very smoothly with Blackboard 9.1. You can download Firefox by going to Firefox.com and then clicking on the large, green, button on the left labeled "Firefox Free Download." A number of common issues that students and faculty run into, regarding Blackboard, can be resolved by using Firefox.
I am enrolled in a course in Genisys, but it isn't showing up in Blackboard, why?
Most of the time, when a course is not showing up in Blackboard but it is showing that you are enrolled in it in Genisys, it means that the course is not currently made available. This often happens when a student enrolls for a course but the instructor has the class still marked as unavailable so that they can finish updating their content (i.e. uploading the syllabus, tests/quizzes, handouts, etc.).
When Copying/Pasting from Word why does my post disappear or display incorrectly?
Pasting content from a Word document can result in problems, including display errors, formatting gone awry, and strange characters appearing on the page. This is a result of excessive code use by Microsoft that other programs cannot interpret correctly.
We have installed a new mashup tool to help resolve this issue without requiring re-typing items into the text editor or using another tool to strip the code.
Instead of pasting your Word content directly into the text editor, you will call up the "Paste from Word" mashup tool All you have to do is select the tool (click the mashup icon and select "Paste from Word", paste the Word content into the box and click "Submit".
While you might not notice any difference on the front end, the Word code has been removed and this is what frequently causes problems. You might have to clean up a few items, such as extra line breaks, but your content will generally be ready to go.

Why do I only see the Announcements section when I go into my course?
If you enter your course and your Course Menu is missing, it typically means that it is just minimized. There is a small tab on the left that you need to click on.

Once you click on it, the Course Menu should appear.
