ACTION: RESULTS:
1.)  Under "Research Tools" on the Regent Library homepage click on "Databases."  At the top of the "Databases & Article Searching" page click on "C." Click/select Christian Periodical Index from the Databases & Article Searching page. A "Welcome to Regent University Library" screen displays asking for your Regent e-mail user name and password.
2.)  Type in your Regent University e-mail user name and password. An "ERLWebSPIRS" search screen displays.
3.)  At the upper left below click on "Advanced" to open the advanced search screen. [The Advanced screen may already be displayed by default].

3.)  At the top right of the screen in the red margin area click on the "Help" hyperlink. A WebSPIRS Help menu displays.
4.) At the bottom of the Help menu click on "Searching Tips." A "Searching Tips" screen  displays on the right side of the screen.
5.)  Scroll down to the middle of the page and click on the "Search examples" hyperlink. A "Search Examples" screen displays.
6.)  In the middle of the Search Examples page note that a phrase such as new york city can be entered in a straight-forward manner, without quotation marks or proximity connectors.  
7.)  At the top right of the Help screen click on  . The WebSPIRS Help screen closes and the Advanced search screen is in full view.
8.)  In the top white text box next to "Terms:" type church growth.  
9.)  In the second white text box type Africa. Directly to the right change "Terms Anywhere" to "TITLE (TI)" by clicking on the blue box down arrow.  
10.)  At the upper right in the blue/purple area of the screen click on the button.  A "Change Limits" screen displays.
11.)  At the left locate the gray "Frequently Used Limits" box and at the bottom of the menu click on "Publication Year."  A "Publication Year" limit option displays at the bottom center of the screen.
12.)  Click on the "From" blue down arrow box and select 1990; then click on the "to" blue down arrow box and select 2004.  
13.)  At the top in the yellow margin area click on the button. The WebSPIRS Change Limits screen closes and the advanced search screen is in full view.

ACTION: RESULTS:
14.)  Just below the third white text box click on the yellow button. Citation records display at the bottom of the screen as a result of our search.
 
 The left side of your browser screen should look similar to this:



 
15.) To the left and middle of the screen locate the two small red arrow buttons and click on the up arrow button.

 

The top search screen menu disappears and the citation records display as a full screen.

16.)  Search the title (TI:) fields and locate the article "Secularisation in Africa: a Challenge for the Churches" by Benno Van den Toren.  
17.)  In the "SO:" field in the same citation record note the journal name in which this article is found : Africa Journal of Evangelical Theology. Note the volume, pages, and date where this article can be found. Regent distance students can request a photocopy of this article through the Regent University Interlibrary Loan Dept.
18.)  If this was a real search you could click on the Print or        E-mail icon at the top right of the screen to own your search results.  
19.)  In the upper right corner of the screen click on "Logout" to exit the program. A blue/purple Login screen displays.  Ignore this screen and use your browser Home button to return to a familiar page.
