INTRODUCTION TO THEOLOGICAL RESEARCH:
A Selected List of Bibliographical Guides

This annotated list is intended as a guide for the beginning divinity student in the selection of biblical and theological resources. Whatever the research need might be, there is a bibliographical guide listed here that will help. Many are annotated with extensive lists of commentary materials on each book of the Bible. Others embrace a variety of topics relevant to every aspect of Christian ministry. The focus is current evangelical resource material, however, other theological perspectives are represented and some significant older titles such as those by Barrow, Smith, and Spurgeon are included.

These guides have been selected for their versatility relevant to theological, biblical, and ministerial research. Works devoted to a single subject area such as intertestamental studies, church history, or a single Bible book are not included. I have noted the number of pages for each guide. Those with few pages should not be overlooked; they are valued for their selectivity. Entries do not have indexes unless otherwise noted.
