TIPS FOR USING ABI/INFORM

ABI/Inform offers several search options.   The default option is for basic search.  Use this option for simple keyword or topic searches.

With any of the search options, you can choose the dates to search.  ABI/Inform allows you to select current articles from 1999 to the present, backfiles from 1986 to 1998, or deep backfiles prior to 1986.   For publication types, you can choose all, periodicals, or newspapers.   Use the default all. ABI/Inform does not cover newspapers, so to find news articles you should search one of the other databases, such as ProQuest Asian Business or ProQuest European Business, Dow Jones Publications Library, or Academic Universe News.  Use the default "search in citations and abstracts" unless you want to do a very broad search. You can also choose the following options: show results with fulltext availibility only to retrieve only fulltext documents, show peer-reviewed articles for scholarly journals, and show total numer of articles.

BASIC SEARCH

Example:

Type organizational culture in the search box. This search will yield over 50 results.

You can add another search term using Boolean operators (AND, OR, and AND NOT) to the search.

Try organizational culture and satisfaction.  This search will yield about 8 results.

Note that for each result, there is a key to full-text availability.

Re-do search by check the box for show results with fulltext availibility only.  This reduces the number of results to about 6 items. Note that you can mark items for future reference by clicking on the box at the far left of the citation.  Click on one of these items to read the fulltext.  Notice that ABI/Inform gives you the options to email article, print article, or save the link
