Locating Industry Information
Locating industry information is an
important aspect of your business research. Some important questions to be asked: Before you begin your research, find the SIC and NAICS code for your industry. To assist in this process, its important to know the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) code for the industry. To find this, use the Standard Industrial Classification (Ref 1042.A55 1987) guide. Beginning in 1997 the NAICS North American Industry Classification System (Ref HF1042.N67 ) took effect. This system was developed to provide a uniformity for the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of industry statistics. A chart comparing the SIC and the NAICS is included. Standard Industrial Classification Search is an online version of the SIC manual. The North American Industry Classification also provides conversion tables from SIC to NAICS.
