SUMMER SEMESTER HOURS

Congratulations to last month's contest winner, Lelia Fry!

You Spoke--We Listened!
by Harold Henkel, Assistant Librarian

At the end of the spring semester, the Library conducted its annual customer satisfaction survey. 493 faculty, staff, and students completed our online survey covering all major services offered by the Library. We appreciate all the kind words and encouragements from the Regent community as well as comments and suggestions for improvement. As a result of this year's survey, the Library will make the following changes in our services beginning the 2005 fall semester:

•  Students may now check out up to five audiovisual materials.

•  Checked-out items may now be renewed up to five times as long as there is no hold on the item and no fine on the patron's record. For maximum convenience, the Circulation Department encourages online renewing!

•  Students living in Williamsburg area will now be considered distance students and eligible to receive materials by mail.

•  The Library will be open until 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Library would like to thank all our patrons who helped us make these improvements by participating in the Customer Satisfaction Survey. Complete 2005 Survey results are available on the About the Library page of the Library Website. We will continue to review the survey and consider further enhancements and changes. The Library is committed to providing the Regent community with outstanding customer service and encourages our patrons to use our online comments and suggestions form to help us improve the services we offer.

Regent University Bids Adieu to Dean Albert Liu
by Ellen Cox, Administrative Assistant,
& Steven Kenneally, Assistant Librarian

Dean Albert Liu is retiring from 38 years of service in the library science field. Dean Liu has spent the last 11 years of his library career at Regent University. He began here as the Director of Support Services. Albert Liu was so well thought of he was asked to serve as acting dean and also associate dean. His career here at Regent reached its apex in 2001 when he was appointed Dean of the University Library. Under his leadership, the library has excelled in all areas including the ever expanding area of technology.

All of the Library Staff will miss Albert, but know he has plans for the future. God never lets His servant retire, He just changes the vista of service. Albert has plans to volunteer with a couple of Chinese Christian organizations. His plans include translating data from English to Chinese. We all wish Albert Godspeed as he goes forward using his gifts in service to the Lord.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!
The University community had the opportunity to honor and bid farewell to Albert Liu on Wednesday, June 8th, by way of a surprise luncheon. Many Regent faculty and staff, along with some of Dean Liu's former colleagues, were in attendance. Click the link to view additional Surprise Party Pictures.

We rejoice over the way God has blessed us by allowing Albert Liu to serve as Dean of the University Library for the past four years.

Where Can I Find?: Popular Reading Collection Alcove
by Steven Kenneally, Assistant Librarian

The Regent University Library has just the ticket for a steamy summer afternoon. Why not relax and check out our popular reading collection? This area of the library is located on the first floor of the library, just past the Reference Desk. Along with some outstanding titles, there exists a wonderful and comfortable environment in which to browse the collection.

The primary purpose of this special collection is to provide an outlet of recreational reading for the adult Regent community. The collection reflects the Christian worldview of the University.

The Popular Reading Collection (PRC) is a special circulating collection within the main library collection. Titles are quality Christian fiction, some Christian biographies, and a selected few Christian bestseller non-fiction titles. Efforts are made to purchase entire sets or series of popular Christian fiction titles, as well as all the works of particular Christian authors (examples: T. Davis Bunn, Brock & Bodie Thoene, and C. S. Lewis, to name a few). A list of all series within this collection, including reading order, is posted with the physical collection. The collection includes books, books-on-tape or CD, videos, and some children’s titles that reflect the purpose of the collection.
