Certificate in Homeland Security: Terrorism, Culture and the Philosophy of Extremism (course one of five)

Thursday, May 15, 2014
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This course offers a general introduction to extremism in culture and society and presents a global perspective on the development of various ways of thinking about extremism and terrorism. Studying extremism through the prism of culture and society allows us to discuss a broad range of actions, principles, viewpoints and policies relating to extremism and terrorism.

At the end of the three weeks you will not be an expert on terrorism, extremism or culture. However, you should be more aware of your own responsibility and role in fighting terror and extremism. You should also be more aware of some basic ideas and arguments relating to such things as the cultural foundations of terrorism, violence and extremism, stereotypes, globalization and the role of the media.
