Office of Alumni Relations Seeks Officers for Hampton Roads Alumni Association

The Office of Alumni Relations seeks candidates for the 2007-2008 Hampton Roads Alumni Association Board of Directors, which will lead the charge of “Christian Leadership to Change the World”, locally. The newly selected Board members will be presented at the “Regent Family Reunion” picnic on May 12, 2007. All interested Regent alumni are encouraged to run for office.

Officer Criteria & Duties:

Please keep in mind that candidates should meet the following criteria and be able to perform the following general duties.

General Officer Criteria:

  • Demonstrates commitment to God as evidenced by a personal relationship with the Jesus, private devotional time, Bible study, and works of service
  • Embraces the mission of the Office of Alumni Relations which is to reconnect alumni with the university, reacquaint alumni and faculty through gatherings, renew passion for Christian leadership, restore fellowship with God through prayer, reach out to others in community service, and ready current students for continued involvement
  • Embraces the Vision of the Hampton Roads Alumni Association, which is to unite and mobilize local Regent alumni to impact Hampton Roads for Christ

General Officer Duties/Proficiencies:

  • Participate in leadership meetings 1 time per month (1-2 hours long)
  • Make alumni-related calls
  • Participate in selected social and outreach events
  • Monitor and respond to alumni leadership emails and use the blog
  • Be aware of and promote alumni events
  • Serve a term of 1 year, starting May 12, 2007

Board of Directors and Auxiliary Board

  • President, Jennifer Reffner (new election to be held in November)
  • Vice-President of Community Service
  • Vice-President of Alumni Support
  • Secretary
  • Historian

The Auxiliary Board will consist of the following 6 Committees, led by a Chairperson. Click here to see detailed position descriptions.

  • Prayer Committee Chair
  • Outreach Committee Chair
  • Mentoring Committee Chair
  • Spring Event Committee Chair
  • Fall Event Committee Chair
  • Networking Committee Chair
  • Public Relations Committee Chair

Note: Each committee will be supported by 1-4 Committee Members. The Board of Directors and Chairs of Committees will be elected by vote. Committee Members will be appointed by the Steering Committee and will not compete against other candidates to win a position. However, they must apply through the online nomination process to be recognized and chosen to serve.

Registration and Campaigning Instructions:

  • Candidates nominate themselves using an online application process. Candidates will be asked to answer 5 questions and submit a picture. Nominations will be accepted from April 1 until April 16, 2007.
  • Candidates will be contacted by the steering committee to set a time for a face-to-face meeting for the purpose of getting to know each other and to answer additional questions either party may have. This meeting is optional.
  • Online voting for candidates will start on May 1, 2007. All 2500 Hampton Roads Regent Alumni will be contacted and asked to vote. Voting will close on May 11, 2007.
  • The new Board of Directors and Committee Members will be introduced on Saturday afternoon, May 12, 2007, at the Regent Family Picnic in Hampton. New officer attendance is expected.

Register by Monday, April 16th, 2007

Send an email to Michelle Carrick, Alumni Coordinator, indicating the position for which you wish to run. Please include your answers to the following questions as well as your resume and a headshot photo.

  1. In 200 words or less, tell us a little about how you came to know Jesus and describe your personal relationship with the Lord.
  2. Where do you go to church or fellowship? What are your spiritual service and growth activities?
  3. Why do you want to be a part of the Hampton Roads Alumni Association? What do you hope to accomplish?
  4. Do you have a “life verse” or a certain scripture that guides your life or pertains to your call in the Hampton Roads Alumni Association? If so, please type it out.
  5. How are you suited for the particular office you are running for?
