Regent DC Alumni Chapter Gets Car & Scholarship for Domestic Violence Burn Survivor

By Chuck Paris, President, DC Alumni Chapter

The Lord used the Regent DC Alumni chapter to arrange for a car and a scholarship for domestic violence survivor, Yvette Cade.  Last year, Yvette Cade, a Prince George’s County, Maryland resident was doused with gasoline and set on fire by her ex-husband when he entered her place of work.  The crime was captured on the store surveillance camera.  Yvette Cade survived the incident and shared her story on “Oprah” and “Nancy Grace.”  Her former husband was sentenced to life in prison.

On opening night, July 21, 2006, Yvette Cade was the special guest of honor at the Magnifique (magnifique.us) production of INFINITAS, a dramatic musical that deals with domestic violence and redemption. INFINITAS was performed in Alexandria, VA.  Regent University’s Washington, DC campus and the DC Alumni chapter were sponsors of INFINITAS.

On INFINITAS opening night it became known that Yvette Cade utilizes the subway to get around.  The DC Alumni chapter informed Mr. Warren Harper, Business Manager at Don Beyer Volvo in Falls Church, VA (donbeyervolvo.com) of Yvette’s situation.  Mr. Harper is the father-in-law of attorney Brian Geno (Regent Law ’87)(novaattorney.com) who attended INFINITAS with Mr. Harper and witnessed Yvette’s attendance at the performance.

Mr. Harper shared Yvette’s needs with Don and Mike Beyer who authorized the dealership to present Yvette with a car.  The presentation will take place at Don Beyer Volvo on August 19th at 1PM.  The event is open to the public.

Also during the INFINITAS run, it became evident that God is preparing Yvette Cade for a ministry involving domestic violence prevention, awareness, and education.  The Regent DC Alumni chapter informed Regent Undergrad in Virginia Beach of Yvette’s story and asked them to provide a two-year scholarship in Communication for her to complete a Bachelors degree.  Yvette already has an Associates degree in computer science.  Dr. Ryan will make the scholarship presentation at an invitation only noon luncheon on August 22, 2006 at the DC campus.

As Yvette Cade continues her media interviews on news programs and in the press, God will be using Regent University to prepare her for her new ministry.  Yvette is committed to serve the Lord and she is a blessing to all that have the opportunity to meet her.  For more information on Yvette, see her website (yvettecadfund.org).  Please keep her in your prayers as God prepares her for greater service and as she raises funds to incorporate her new ministry.
