Blog Registration Instructions

Step 1

Email me and let me know that you would like to participate. I will have to send you an individual invitation to allow you to register. This is how we will reserve the blog for only Regent alums. When you email, please include at which email address you would like to receive your blog registration information.

Step 2

Don't delete the invitation email! :o) The sender line will read “Blogger Invites.” If you don't see it within 24 hours of submitting your request, try checking your spam mail folder.

Step 3

Click on the link in the invitation email. When the “Join a Blog” screen pops up, scroll all the way down to the bottom and click “Create an Account” (unless of course you are already a Blogger.com user...then just sign in as normal).

Step 4

Fill out the short registration form. You do not have to give any personal information (phone numbers, addresses, etc.). Your “User Name” will be whatever you want to login as (like the username in Windows when you turn on your computer). Your “Display Name” is the name that will be listed at the bottom of each post. For example, for my display name, I might put "Michelle Carrick" so that when I post something, people will know who wrote it. Your email address is only for you to receive Administrator postings (from me!) when necessary. The email address is NOT displayed anywhere in the blog...so no worries! No one else will have it or be able to get it. :o)

Step 5

Familiarize yourself with the site.

When you log in, the first screen you will see is what you can use to post comments. If you look along the top of that screen you will see two different tabs. The first tab is for posting. If you click the “Create” link under this tab, you will see a screen that looks like email. This is where you can write messages to your fellow alums.

After you write what you want to write, click the red “Publish Post” button at the bottom of the screen. This will allow the rest of the group to read your message. The last tab is the "View" tab. This is how you can read all of the messages and comments that others have written. You can also go directly to this screen without logging in by going to https://regentdcchapter.blogspot.com. However, you can NOT post until you actually log in by going to www.blogger.com. Both links will be posted on your chapter website (www.regent.edu/alumni/chapters/washington_dc/dcchapter.cfm) within the next few days...so if all else fails and you just can't remember them, refer back to that central information location!

After you've posted something, others will have the opportunity to either place a comment on your post or reply by adding a whole new post, so make sure you check back. If they have placed a comment on your post, there will be a little link at the end of your post (on the same line as the "posted by...") that will indicate how many comments you have. If you have a comment, just click on the link and you will be able to view your comments. If you would like to leave a comment for someone else, there is a “Post a Comment” link at the bottom of their post. Click on it and leave your message...or just publish a new post to respond. Both work equally well. :o)

Last, but not least...

If this is your first blogger experience and you are still confused, there is a wonderfully helpful “?help” link at the very very top left-hand side of your screen. I have found it to be fairly straight forward. And if you're still stuck, feel free to contact me for help. I'll do whatever I can to navigate you through the site!

Enjoy! And remember...you need to email me to receive an invitation to the group.

We look forward to hearing from you!
