Academic Writing Seminars

The University Writing Center offers two writing seminars to help you navigate through writing assignments in your classes. You can register for either of them through Genisys or through your advisor. Each one is a semester long, is Pass/Fail, and costs $350. These programs include assignments that are due every week, and individualized writing support is available throughout the semester.

The Academic Writing Seminar for entering graduate and undergraduate students

This seminar focuses on the most important aspects of academic writing for graduate level students: thesis and topic sentences, paragraph development, style manuals, avoiding plagiarism, and grammar and punctuation.

This program builds upon the Academic Writing Seminar and offers increased skills in building a strong argument, choosing sources, writing more effectively, and using advanced sentence structure.
