At the Writing Center, we understand that your academic writing needs are much different than those of graduate students:
- Your program often includes an extensive online coursework component.
- Homework may require ongoing discussion board interactions.
- Many courses are scheduled in 8-week course modules.
- Your major involves a broad range of course subjects.
- The instructions and requirements may be unclear to you.
- You may never have written an academic research paper previously.
- Now the papers have to be formatted according to a style manual.
- Nobody has told you how to identify an acceptable academic source.
- You very well may feel overwhelmed.
We Can Help
Whether you are just starting and need help interpreting the professor's syllabus, or you are finally finishing and need help with a senior thesis project, you have our full support you in your academic journey. The coaches at the Writing Center come from many different backgrounds and programs. No matter what program you are in or what your need is, you are sure to find your best fit.
We have extensive hours, and our coaching sessions can be in person or over the phone.
You Have Options
You have your own way of approaching an assignment. The Writing Center offers two approaches to ensure you find the best fit in successfully completing your academic writing assignments.
One-on-one Coaching Sessions
Available in 45-minutes sessions, our coaches can help you with any aspect of your assignment, from interpreting the syllabus and choosing a topic to formatting the style and checking the punctuation. We go through the paper with you, giving you specific and detailed feedback on anything that may need to be addressed before you submit it. For answers to quick questions, you can reach us through our online chat.
The session can be in person (at the Student Center) or over the phone (we call you). All you do is schedule an appointment through our website, email the assignment to us and tell us what you need. You can meet with the same coach throughout the semester, or you can try different coaches, depending upon their skill set and your paper's needs. Although we don't fix the paper for you, we work with you to not only make each assignment better but also improve your writing skills. Best of all, we don't mind if you have questions and need to work through ideas with a coach. We are here to help you!
