The coaches at the Writing Center come from many different backgrounds and programs. No matter what program you are in or what your need is, you are sure to find someone who can help you.

Whether you are just starting and need help interpreting the professor's syllabus, or you are finally finishing and need help with a senior thesis project, there is someone here to support you in your academic journey.

We have extensive hours, and our coaching sessions can be in person or over the phone, making it perfect for both local and distance education learners.

You Have An Option

We know that every person has their own way of approaching an assignment. Here at the Writing Center, we want to help you in the way that best works for you. Thus, we have two different ways you can get help for your academic writing assignments.

One-on-one Coaching Sessions

We have coaches available to discuss your paper with you. Each session is 45 minutes long, and we can help you with any aspect of the assignment, from interpreting the syllabus and choosing a topic to formatting the style and checking the punctuation. We go through the paper with you, giving you specific and detailed feedback on anything that may need to be addressed before you submit it. Also, if you just have a quick question, you can reach us through our online chat.

The session can be in person (the Student Center) or over the phone (we call you). All you do is schedule an appointment through our website, email the assignment to us, and tell us what you need. You can meet with the same coach throughout the semester, or you can try different coaches, depending upon their skill set and your paper's needs. Although we don't fix the paper for you, we work with you to not only make each assignment better but also improve your writing skills. Best of all, we don't mind if you have questions and need to work through ideas with a coach. We are here to help you!

SmartThinking®

You may not have time to meet with one of our coaches, or you may just want someone to take a quick look at your assignment and email it back to you with some comments. For you, RSU has contracted SmartThinking®. Through this program, you will email your assignment to one of their e-structors and get feedback through online chat or through email.
