1. What equipment does each room have?
You can find a complete list of all the equipment contained in a room on our website at http://www.regent.edu/admin/media/roominfo/flash/roominfo.cfm
2. What is the podium password?
Please call the Help Line at x4105 for this information.
3. What is the unit called that can project an image from a computer or laptop?
Data Projector
4. What is the unit called that can project a transparency or solid image onto the projector?
Document Camera
5. What is the microphone that attaches to the lapel?
These are typically called lavaliere microphones, or “lavs” for short.
6. The projector is on, but nothing is being displayed. How can I fix this? (podium room & wall panel rooms)
If you are in a podium room, first make sure the correct input is selected. If you are using the podium computer, make sure the PC input is selected. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, log out of the podium, wait a few minutes and log back in.
If you are not in a podium room, but you are in a room with a panel on the wall, make sure the correct input is selected. If you have the correct input selected and nothing is showing up, try switching to another input and then back to the input you need. If this doesn’t work, turn off the system, give it a few minutes and log back in.
7. The projector is on, but nothing is being displayed. How can I fix this? (low tech room)
If your laptop is hooked directly up to the wall unit and the projector is on, you will most likely need to perform the “toggle” on your laptop, assuming your laptop is on already. This consists of pushing the “FN” key on the bottom left of your keyboard and then pushing the “CRT/LCD” button on one of the F keys.
If this doesn’t work, or doesn’t make sense, power down your laptop and the projector. Make sure everything is connected properly, and power on the projector and your laptop. The laptop should perform an automatic sync, and the image from your laptop should be projected.
8. Can I schedule a time to record audio/video for my class?
Yes, we can record audio/video in a classroom setting, in your office, or in our studio. Call Mark Stevenson at x4142 to discuss your specific needs.
9. Can Media Services perform a video teleconference (VTC)?
Yes, we have a VTC unit in each of the COM, CRB and RH buildings. We can perform a VTC to the DC location, as well as to outside groups on a case-by-case basis. Before requesting a VTC, please secure a room through the Registrar’s office.
10. Can I get one of my classes recorded and put online for students to view and/or download?
Yes, we can put audio and video online. To do so, please complete our Encoding Request Form.
11. What equipment is available to checkout?
Any equipment needed to be checked out other than a data projector will be loaned out on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Mark Stevenson at x4142 to discuss your specific needs.
12. Can I borrow a data projector for an off-campus event?
Faculty and Staff are allowed to checkout a data projector for up to a week as long as one is available. To request a projector, fill out our Equipment Request Form.
13. I’m in a podium room, and I’m using a lavaliere microphone. How can I turn the volume up or down?
Please call the Help Line at x4105; we can turn the volume up/down from our office.
14. I’m doing an event at The Founders Inn; can you help me with my media needs?
The Founders Inn employs its own media services group. However, on an availability basis, we can provide data projectors to faculty for checkout, and we can provide Digital Video recording for a fee. Please call Mark Stevenson at x4142 to discuss your specific needs.
15. Does Media Services provide support for the COM Main Theatre and/or the COM Screening Rooms?
Rick Hall manages all the sound for those rooms. However, Media Services can also perform video recording in those rooms.
16. I have a special project I want to start, but I need help. Can Media Services help me with this?
We would be happy to review your project overview with you and discuss your needs. Please call Mark Stevenson at x4142.
17. I requested someone to set up some equipment for an event; when can I expect it to be set up?
Typically, we try to set up for events 30 minutes before the event unless it’s a more complicated set up requiring more time. The only exception to the 30-minute rule is if the room is being occupied when we would normally set up. In this case, we set up when the room is available. This situation applies to having an event operator as well.
18. I have some personal videos I need copied; can Media Services do this?
Yes, for a fee, Media Services can copy your videos. Please complete our Duplication Request Form, and drop off the tapes to our office.
19. I have a duplication or encoding job that needs to be done; how long will it take to complete?
On average, jobs take a week to complete. Please understand that we assist each school and department on campus with their production needs, and are often very busy. Timeliness is of chief importance to us. However, we cannot guarantee that last-minute requests will be completed per your instructions or deadline.
20. What is the difference between a Video Teleconference (VTC) and a live stream (webcast)?
VTCs are direct connections from one VTC unit to another VTC unit. Shared content (PowerPoint) can exist between the two units—more like a telephone call with video. Interaction is two-way, and special units are used for VTCs. A live stream simply means watching a feed on your computer of the broadcasted event. This involves only one-way interaction and requires a simple link, sent by us, for you to view the event.
21. How much data can a DVD hold?
DVDs can hold close to 4.5 GBs or 4500 MBs. We do have the capability to burn dual-layer DVDs, which hold around 9GBs or 9000 MBs.
22. How much data can a CD hold?
CDs can hold close to 700 MBs or about 80 minutes worth of audio.
23. Does Media Services loan out laptops?

25. I called the Media Services Help Line at x4105, but no one answered; how can I reach someone?
If no one picks up the Help Line, please leave a message. That message will be forwarded to all our cell phones, and someone will assist you as soon as possible.
26. How can I get an extension cord to plug in my laptop or other device?
You will need to contact Facility Services at x4444.
27. Can I get a data projector set up in the Library Atrium?
Unfortunately, we don’t have data projectors bright enough to compete with the intense light emitted by the sun through the large number of windows in the ceiling of the Atrium. However, we are willing to set up projectors in the evening hours since it is darker.
28. I’m doing a social-type event, and I need a portable speaker, CD player and microphone. How do I go about reserving all of this?
Student Services has a very nice portable speaker with an included CD player and wireless microphone. Contact Dr. Jeff Pittman at jeffpit@regent.eduto reserve this system.
29. I want to have a presentation recorded and have my PowerPoint synced up with it; is this possible?
