ELIGIBILITY

Employee-Of-The-Month Award Eligibility requirements are that the nominees must:

  1. Be a regular full-time or regular part-time employee for at least six (6) months before the award is made. Vice presidents, faculty and graduate assistants are ineligible to receive this particular award.

President's Award For Excellence Eligibility requirements are that the nominees must:

  1. Meet the eligibility requirements for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award.

  2. Have been employed at least one year and nominated for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award within the current year.

PROCEDURE

The procedure for submitting a nomination is as follows:

  1. Nomination forms will be made available to all employees.

  2. Any eligible employee may submit a nomination for any other eligible employee throughout the university.

  3. The employee submitting the nomination will complete the form and send to the Awards for Excellence Committee.   (Please submit online.  If not possible to submit online, please print or type.)

  4. An employee may be a recipient of the Employee-Of-The-Month Award no more than once in a calendar year.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

THE REGENT UNIVERSITY AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM will be a university-wide program to motivate and reward employees for the demonstration of innovation, integrity, and excellence in on-the-job performance. The program will consist of two interrelated awards:

  1. "Employee-Of-The-Month"

  2. "President's Award For Excellence"

Any regular full-time or regular part-time employee may submit a nomination for the "Employee-Of-The-Month". All nominations for the "Employee-Of-The-Month" will be automatically nominated for the "President's Award For Excellence".

The Awards For Excellence Program Committee (AEPC) will be composed of at least five (5) employees, preferably those who received the President's Award for Excellence the preceding year. It will be the duty of the AEPC to implement and maintain the AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM .

The Vice President for Human Resources will monitor the program and serve as coordinator of the program.

 
THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

  1. Definition: THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM will be a university-wide program to motivate and reward employees for the demonstration of innovation, integrity, and excellence in on-the-job performance. The THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM will consist of two (2) interrelated awards:

    1. "EMPLOYEE-OF-THE-MONTH" The Employee-Of-The-Month Award will consist of:

      1. A letter of commendation to the recipient signed by the President of Regent University

      2. A printed certificate designating the recipient as Employee of the Month

      3. $100 Cash

      4. One (1) Personal Preference day of leave with pay

      5. Reserved parking for one (1) month

      6. Recognition at one or more all-staff gathering(s)

      7. Other awards as determined by the Committee, with the approval of the Vice President for Human Resources

    2. "PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE" The President's Award For Excellence will consist of:

      1. A President's Award For Excellence certificate signed by Regent University's Chancellor and/or President

      2. An additional award which will be determined by management each year

      3. Recognition at the annual Christmas Awards Program or appropriate university gathering

  2. Implementation: AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM COMMITTEE:

    1. The Awards For Excellence Program Committee (AEPC) will be appointed by the President prior to the beginning of each calendar year. It will be the responsibility of this committee to implement and maintain the AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE PROGRAM for that year. Vice presidents, directors and managers shall provide support for the functioning of this committee.

    2. The committee shall consist of at least five (5) members, preferably those who received the President's Award for Excellence the preceding year.

    3. Committee members shall serve for one (1) calendar year. In the event a member is unable to complete his/her term of service on the committee and their leaving drops the member count below five (5), another employee shall be appointed by the president (e.g. someone from the previous year's committee) to serve the remainder of the calendar year.

    4. The appointment of committee members for the ensuing calendar year shall be complete by December 31 of the current year.

    5. The committee shall elect its own chair who shall serve in that capacity for one (1) calendar year.

    6. The committee shall establish its meeting schedule for the ensuing year and shall forward a copy of this schedule to the Vice President for Human Resources.

    7. Committee members will be ineligible to receive an Award For Excellence during their term of service on the committee.

  3. Eligibility:

    1. EMPLOYEE-OF-THE-MONTH: Eligibility requirements are that the employee must be:

      1. A regular full-time or regular part-time employee working at Regent University for at least six (6) months before the award is made.

      2. Members of the President's Cabinet, faculty and graduate assistants are ineligible to receive an Award For Excellence.

    2. PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE : Eligibility requirements are that the employee must:

      1. Meet the eligibility requirements for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award

      2. Have been employed at least one year and nominated for the Employee of the Month Award prior to the deadline for nominations for the current year.

  4. Criteria: The eligible employee must have demonstrated the criteria of innovation, integrity and excellence in his/her on-the-job performance in order to be nominated for any of these awards. The definition of each criterion is as follows:

    1. INNOVATION: New and improved methods of work accomplishment, cost savings, program ideas, new or improved procedures

    2. INTEGRITY: Christian commitment, honesty, uprightness, and sincerity. A reflection of the life and commandments of Jesus Christ.  Consistently pursuing God's standards, even when no one is watching, and even when it entails personal sacrifice. Representing a wholeness and completeness that is, as much as possible, in accordance with the biblical ideal.

    3. EXCELLENCE: Well beyond standard performance in accomplishing tasks or producing work outcomes

  5. Nomination:

    1. Awards For Excellence Nomination Forms will be made available to all employees.

    2. All nominations submitted for an Award For Excellence will be for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award. Any eligible employee who is nominated is automatically a nominee for the President's Award For Excellence.

    3. Any eligible employee may nominate any other eligible employee throughout the university for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award.

    4. To submit a nomination, an employee will:

      1. Complete an Award for Excellence Nomination Form. The same nomination form is used to nominate both non-supervisory and supervisory employees.

      2. Submit the completed nomination form to the AEPC.

    5. The AEPC Chair will obtain the approval of the employee's supervisor.

    6. An employee may be a recipient of the Employee-Of-The-Month Award no more than once in a calendar year.

    7. The deadline for nominations to be considered for the President's Award for Excellence is October 1. Nominations received after October 1 will be carried over for consideration in the next calendar year.

  6. Selection: In selecting a nominee to be a recipient for an Award for Excellence, the committee shall consider:

    1. All criteria for eligibility

    2. Specific examples of how well the candidate has met the criteria for innovation, integrity and excellence

    3. The number of times the candidate was nominated

    4. How much the candidate's position lends itself to visibility for nomination

    5. A person on the selection committee who has supervisory responsibility for a nominee should excuse him/herself from any meetings where that nominee is discussed in order to encourage freedom of discussion.

  7. EMPLOYEE-OF-THE-MONTH :

    1. The Employee-Of-The-Month Award will be made to one employee for each month.

    2. The Awards For Excellence Program Committee shall deliver the nomination of the person selected by the committee to be the Employee-Of-The-Month to the Human Resources Department.

    3. Once approved by Human Resources the President's Office shall prepare a letter of commendation for the recipient. The letter shall be typed on official university stationery and shall be signed by the President of the university. The letter shall designate the recipient Employee-Of-The-Month for the calendar month in which they were selected.

    4. The award will be presented at an appropriate university gathering, no later than the first week of the month following the award month.

  8. PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE :

    1. The President's Award For Excellence will be presented to an appropriate number of employees based on the following formula: January headcount, less faculty and executive administrators, divided by 30, rounded up to the next whole number. The recipients of this award will be selected from those who, through the year, were nominated for the Employee-Of-The-Month Award.

    2. By November 1 of each year, the Awards For Excellence Program Committee shall deliver to the Human Resource Department a list of the names of the persons selected to be recipients of the President's Award For Excellence for that calendar year. The list of names shall:

      1. Be listed in rank order of preference

      2. Be accompanied by the supporting Awards For Excellence Nomination Forms for each name on the list .

    3. Human Resources will contact the vice president of each nominee to obtain their approval.

    4. The list of nominees for the President's Award for Excellence will be presented by the Vice President for Human Resources to the President for final approval.

    5. Human Resources shall make the necessary arrangements to have the President's Award For Excellence prepared for presentation.

    6. The President's Award For Excellence will be presented by the university Chancellor and/or President at an appropriate university gathering in December.
