Faculty/Staff Meeting
February 2009

RU GLOBAL

The first quarterly faculty/staff meeting of 2009, held on February 2, 2009 in the Moot Court Room, was devoted to the launch of the University's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), known as "RU Global," marking the beginning of a greater emphasis on the global context of the University's mission of "Christian leadership to change the world.”

"The RU Global campaign is designed to increase the global competence of our students," said Dr. Carlos Campo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, adding that the campaign has three objectives. "We will increase global learning in our academic programs, enhance faculty expertise in global teaching and learning and become a leading resource for Christ-centered global learning," Campo explained.

There are four student outcomes associated with the campaign. "We're calling these outcomes See, Connect, Learn and Lead," Campo said. "See focuses on global perspective; Connect on intercultural engagement; Learn on information literacy; and Lead on global leadership."

After further explaining the benefits of global awareness and improved cross-cultural communication skills, Dr. Campo reiterated that Regent's unique, international Christian perspective has already laid the foundation for global understanding. "It's been in our DNA from the beginning," he told the standing-room-only audience of faculty, staff and students, as well as the hundreds of others who watched the event streamed live via the Internet.

The stage for Dr. Campo's remarks was set by a brief video, featuring students, faculty and staff asking the audience RU Global? It challenged everyone to think about their roles as global citizens and what they will do to provide competent global leadership beyond Regent.

Founder and Chancellor Dr. Pat Robertson then shared his vision for Regent's global impact: "We're not just going to change Virginia Beach; we're not just going to change the United States." Reminding the audience of the global scope of the university's mission, he emphasized, "It's Christian leadership to change the world."

In his extensive travels, Dr. Robertson has seen firsthand the need for quality education and leadership that transcends boundaries...whether in Africa, Europe, Asia or South America. "While different regions have different needs, it all comes down to one thing," he explained. "People's hearts are all the same."

His interaction with leaders and entrepreneurs from all over the world has propelled Robertson's vision to provide education and Christian leadership to people outside of the United States. Now, he's calling on Regent University—faculty, staff and students—to join him in the next step.

Following his address, Robertson led Regent's deans, the Vice President for Human Resources and the President of the Council of Graduate Students in a candle lighting ceremony, symbolic of the role that Regent will play in the RU Global initiative and as active members of the global community.
