Course One: Terrorism, Culture and the Philosophy of Extremism $249: Individual Course | $1245: Full Certificate This certificate is non-credit but it does qualify for continuing education units. Note: In order to receive the Basic Homeland Security Certificate, a minimum of three courses must be completed. In order to receive the Advanced Homeland Security Certificate, all five courses must be successfully completed. Course Description: Taught by leading experts, the Homeland Security Certificate is a concise and comprehensive program designed to equip professionals interested in working in the homeland security field. Participants will gain practical and dynamic understanding of current theory and practice to lead and work more effectively in the homeland security community. Students can engage in sessions from the psychology of extremism to the evolution of terrorism, advances in counterterrorism, international relations, threat assessments and analysis, cyberpolitics, homeland defense, disaster relief policy and administration. Dr. Osula is an applied human services practitioner with a wealth of experience that cuts across the areas of global leadership, cultural analysis, and consultant management. He is active in a variety of leadership and other programs as a professor, consultant, trainer, and mentor. He is a frequent participant in and organizer of training workshops and professional development seminars. His interests include, leadership development, organizational diagnosis, consulting theory and practice, ethics, cross-cultural analyses, security and public policy.
Dr. Gary joined the faculty of the School of Business & Leadership in 2003. He is an assistant professor who directs the Strategic Foresight program, which helps students from the MBA to doctoral level master the art of foresight in both business and community contexts. He also serves as the program director of the M.A. in Strategic Foresight and directs the Christian Futures network.
Stephen Kunich instructs our Disaster Preparedness course and has a 30 year background in Emergency Response/First Responder positions. He has performed all aspects of Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Customs Border Clearance and Immigration. He has several specialties such as Physical Security, Nuclear and Classified material protection, and the development of non lethal technologies for the Military in his background. Several of these functions were undertaken in foreign countries further expanding his expertise in coordinating efforts. Previously he facilitated a course in Advanced Counter Terrorism and uses this to parallel how major Terrorist situations generate the same types of Emergency Response. He is a member of the Newport News Community Emergency Response Team |
