The foundations of best practices in psychological assessment work are developed during graduate training. This presentation will address learning professional standards and ethics in assessment practice through coursework and practica.

Program Description:

Topics will include obtaining informed consent, avoiding dual relationships in testing volunteers, selecting appropriate tests or test batteries to address referral questions, ensuring accuracy in test scoring and interpretation, writing individualized person-centered reports, providing therapeutic test feedback to clients, safeguarding the security of test materials and raw data, and developing competency with new tests to test editions. Challenges related to student anxieties and pressures, and guidelines for supervisory support, will be discussed.

Radhika Krishnamurthy, Psy.D., ABAP, is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Florida Institute of Technology and a licensed psychologist in Florida. She is currently President of the Society for Personality Assessment and is a former President of Section IX, Assessment Psychology, of the American Psychological Association's Division 12. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology and fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Personality Assessment. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Personality Assessment and Consulting Editor for Assessment and Psychological Assessment. She is co-author of two MMPI-A books and several book chapters and journal articles on psychological assessment, and has presented numerous assessment-related papers and symposia at the Society for Personality Assessment annual meetings, International Congress of Rorschach and Projective Methods, and American Psychological Association conventions.
