What are continuing education courses and workshops?
The School of Psychology & Counseling’s (SPC) continuing education (CE) initiative brings cutting-edge discussions and lectures by preeminent mental health educators and clinicians on topics related to marriage and family, juveniles, cultural diversity, professionalism and ethics, clinical practice, spiritual integration, and many more. Continuing education credit is provided to you upon completion of the course or workshop. CE hours vary based on the length and content of the course or workshop.
What are some uses or benefits of continuing education certificates and hours?
Continuing education certificates can be used for a variety of purposes including proof of training received, professional license renewal, employer reimbursement, and proof of attendance. Continuing education hours from an approved continuing education provider are required by various professions including counselors, psychologists, social workers, teachers, physicians, and many others.
What do I need to do to earn a CE certificate and CE hours?
Participants of an online course must complete the entire course, pass the quiz, and complete a course evaluation. Participants of face-to-face seminars and workshops must attend an event in its entirity, sign-in and sign-out at the event on each day the event is held, and complete an online event evaluation survey.
Do your continuing education courses and workshops count toward fulfilling my license requirements?
Regent University's School of Psychology and Counseling is an approved provider of continuing education by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) (Provider #4446) and the American Psychological Association (APA). The School of Psychology and Counseling's Professional and Continuing Education Program maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.
The SPC continuing education courses also fulfill the CE requirements for Virginia counselors (LPC – 18 VAC 115-20-106), substance abuse treatment providers (LSATP – 18 VAC 115-60-116), marriage and family therapists (LMFT – 18 VAC 115-50-96), and Virginia psychologists (LCP – 18 VAC125-20-122).
How are the online courses presented? (What technologies do I need?)
The courses are presented in HTML and streaming Flash or .WMV video format. Flash video requires users to have Flash installed and enabled in the browser they are using.
Many courses also have accompanying PowerPoint presentations and PDF or Word documents. If you have problems viewing the videos or documents, use the resources below.
Mozilla Firefox - The Flash plug-in is an add-on to the Firefox broswer. To manage your add-ons and enable Flash, at the top of your browser window select Tools > select Add-ons> next to Shockwave Flash select Enable.
Explorer - The Flash plug-in is an add-on to the Explorer Browser. To manage your add-ons and enable Flash, at the top of your browser window select Tools > select Manage Add-ons> select Enable or Disable Add-ons >next to Shockwave Flash Object select Enable.

How long do I have to complete an online course and access the materials?
Upon registration, you have 30 days to complete an online course. Our continuing education courses were designed to comfortably fit within this timeframe. Given that individuals have busy schedules and may not be able to complete the course in one sitting, you can use your username and password to return to course at any time within the 30-day period.
How much do your courses and workshops cost?
I attended a workshop and I would like to review the video recording. Can you send it to me?
Unfortunately, we do not provide access to workshop recordings to workshop attendees. To protect our presenters and their intellectual property, video recordings are strictly used for registrants of the School of Psychology and Counseling's online continuing education courses or other specific uses as outlined in our contracts with our presenters.
How does the registration, on course completion and certificate printing work?

I am trying to register, but I am receiving a message that my username is already is use.
You must create a new username for each course or workshop for which you are registering. Each username is connected with one course or workshop registration which assists us in ensuring you receive access to the course or workshop you select and have a certificate printed with the correct information. You will be sent a confirmation email once you register and pay for your course or workshop with your login information.
I was in the middle of registering, I selected the back button after creating my username and now I am being told my username is already is use.
If you create username and password, submit it and then select the back button, you will need to create a new username. This is because you registered that username for that course, but did not finish the registration with a payment so the username is connected with a course you are not registered for. Please create a new username.
Will I receive a receipt?
If you paid by credit card or eCheck, you will receive a payment receipt for the amount paid via email. If you paid by paper check (currently not available) and need confirmation of payment, we can send a payment affirmation via email to the email address provided at registration. Regardless of payment method, if you registered for a workshop, you will receive a workshop confirmation email if you registered online. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.
How do I pay for the online courses and workshops?
The payment method for CE courses and workshops is quick and simple. Once you have completed the CE Registration Form and created a username and password, you will be directed to the CE Payment page. These webpages are secure and the information you provide is safe. You will be asked to provide credit card holder information, a type of credit card, a credit card number, security code, and expiration date. Once the payment has been approved, you will be directed to the course or workshop page you selected.

You may pay by credit/debit card or by eCheck (EFT).

Is my payment processing secure?
We use SSL (secure socket layer) security technology. SSL is all about encryption. SSL encrypts data, like credit cards numbers (as well as other personally identifiable information), which prevents the "bad guys" from stealing your information for malicious intent. You know that you're on an SSL protected page when the address on the payment page begins with "https".
How do I take course exams?
Once you have completed the content for a course, you can select to take the exam. After you have completed the exam you will be able to print your certificate.
Is my exam timed?
No, you can take as much time as needed to complete the exam. However, after a period of time with no interaction with the course, you will be logged out due to security needs. If this happens, you will need to retake the exam.
Can I re-take an exam?
You can retake the exam at any time within the 30 days from registration. If you would like to study and come back later, simply logon when you return and click to take the exam.
How many times can I retake an exam?
You can take the exam as many times as needed without any additional cost during the 30 days from registration.
How do I know if I passed the exam?
Once an exam has been submitted earning a passing score, you will be provided with a course evaluation form. Once the evaluation is completed, you will be able to print your certifcate.
What is a passing score on the exams?
Because we allow unlimited retakes on the exam to assess understanding of course content, a passing score is: 100%. However, the exams are short, to the point, and if you completed the instruction, you will be fine.
I am having problems completing the evaluation survey or printing my certificate. What can I do? The most common problems:
- Please try a different Internet browser as it could be the settings on the browser you are using that are causing problems.
- A firewall or antivirus software amy be causing problems. Temporarily disable the firewall or anti-virus software and try again.
- Other settings on the computer you are using may also be a problem. Try logging in from another computer.
- If all of the above fails, please contact us.
How will I receive my certificate?
Once you have completed your course or workshop you will be able to login to the CE website using the username and password you created when you registered. The login link is in the left menu of the CE website. If you registered for a workshop and you are not sure what your username and password are, they were included on the confirmation email you received. Each workshop and course will have a unique username (Please see Getting Started instructions).
Once you have logged in to the CE website, you will be requested to complete an evaluation survey. Once this is complete, you can print your certificate from the website. The certificate can be viewed and printed from any computer as long as you have logged into the website.
Can you print my certificate and mail it to me?
Unfortunately we cannot print your certificate and mail it to you for several reasons. First, certificates are created automatically by the registration system when the course or seminar has been completed by a participant. Completion of the course or seminar includes an evaluation of the training event. This evaluation is completed when a participant logs in after a course quiz has been passed or attendance at a seminar has been verified. Therefore the certificates received are created by a computer once a participant has logged in, completed the evalution and then selects the print button. Second, we maintain records of completed courses and seminars, evaluations, and printed certificates for our accrediting agencies and if we created certificates manually and sent them to participants we would not be able to collect required data. Third, your registration fees and CE fees are for the event and the certificate and do not include shipping and handling charges. Participants must login, complete the evaluations, and print their certificates.
What will the continuing education certificate include?
The certificate will have your name, the name of the course or workshop, the date of the workshop, the number of continuation hours earned, appropriate signatures, the names and appropriate numbers for our continuing education approval organizations (NBCC, etc), as well as the School of Psychology and Counseling's Professional and Continuing Education Program and Regent University's contact information.
Can I print more than one copy of my certificate?
You can print an unlimited number of copies.
I lost my certificate. What can I do?
If you have lost your CE certificate simply log in with your email address and password. All completed certificates are stored online. You can view and print your certificate from any computer. For online courses you must complete your course and print your certificate within 30 days of registering.
I tried to print my certificate, but I am receiving a message that my login has expired. What can I do?
It sounds as though you logged into the CE website, but the time to have your login open without activity expired. To protect you, the system logs you out.
You should be able to login with a fresh browser window.
- Close down your browser window and then log in to your workshop registration (http://www.regent.edu/ce ).
- If you do not want to close your current browser window, the open a different browser and login to the CE window. (If you have Firefox open and do not want to close it, open a Microsoft Explorer browser and login.
I am traveling from out of town to attend one of your workshops or seminars. Where can I stay?

I did not receive a confirmation email message when I registered. What can I do?
- Please check your email program's junkmail folder.
- Be sure to add email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org to your email's contact list or whitelist.
- Request your IT department staff add “email@example.com” and firstname.lastname@example.org to their email whitelist.

I cannot attend the workshop I registered for and I need to cancel. Can I request a refund?
We do provide refunds minus a processing fee in some circumstances. Please review our cancellation/refund policy.
What if my eCheck is returned?
We all know things can happen, but we must be able to resolve any financial agreements. There is a $30.00 returned draft fee charged as we are charged this fee by our bank when an echeck or regular check is returned. The full amount of the course or workshop plus the $30 fee is due within 7 days of notification of returned item. If payment is not received a collection agency may be contacted to retrieve payment.
When can I sign up as a volunteer for seminars?
Most events through the SPC Professional and Continuing Education are staffed with student volunteers as well as fulltime staff. Regent University School of Psychology and Counseling students will be requested to serve as volunteers as needed. A call for new volunteers will occur on a semi-annual basis unless additional volunteers are needed. All volunteers must complete a manitory training session to serve as a volunteer.

What are your services for patrons with disabilities?
Our students and faculty are important to us. That is why we strive to make our facilities and events as accessible as possible for those among us with disabilities. Handicapped parking, elevators, and other accommodations are in place for attendance at on campus events, however, we understand that additional accommodations may be needed or requested. Professional and Continuing Education participants may request accommodation for disabilities by notifying the Director of Professional and Continuing Education. Regent University will make every possible effort to provide a reasonable accommodation in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A request for reasonable accommodation does not necessarily mean that Regent University will provide an accommodation for the student. If a particular accommodation would be an undue hardship on the university, the university will try to find an alternative accommodation that would not pose such a hardship.
