Summer Institute Preview

2013 International Youth Leadership Institute
July 8 - 19, 2013 l Regent University Campus

This global summer program will prepare today's youth to be tomorrow's groundbreaking leaders.

It is important to prepare the young people of today to take positions of leadership in the future. Regent University created the International Youth Leadership Program to teach them how to lead and serve society with values that promote understanding among diverse cultures, perspective to address complex challenges and courage to seek what is good.

This dynamic institute focuses on immersing participants in both the American and Chinese cultures. This pairing will both challenge students to broaden their leadership skills and encourage them to explore global opportunities while interacting with internationals. No matter what field of study each student may enter, our goal is to give all participants the tools they need to become innovative leaders who can change the world.

Course Highlights:
•Language Sessions: Offer the opportunity for participants to learn from each other's language and practice language skills together. (American Students)
•Leadership and Character: Sessions will focus on leadership basics, ethics and character building
•Intercultural Interaction: Prepare the youth to understand different cultural perspectives and better equip them to interact with youth from other cultures
•Science and Leadership: Engineering and science focused sessions. In-class engineering project building
•China - U.S. Comparative Political Systems: Compare the different political system between US and China, help the participants to better understand the political dynamics of the two countries
•Youth Leadership & Social Justice: Teach from real cases, help today's youth to be aware of the challenges to our societies; cultivate social responsibilities in our young participants
•Innovation & Leadership: Introduce the ideas of being innovative and creative; illustrate innovation through technology development.
•Other Highlights: Team leadership, digital communication and social media sessions.

Program Highlights:
Regent University Professors lead sessions; ESL and CSL lead language sessions.
Weekend trips: Two nights stay at Colonial Williamsburg; visit to Colonial Williamsburg, and Busch Gardens.
Talent show nights; welcome BBQ and closing banquet; a final presentation evaluated by the leading instructor and awards grants by Regent University leadership.

Student Registration Rate:
Residence Price: $2500
(Includes deposit, tuition, lodging, three meals each day, weekend trips, all institute activities, transportation)
Commuting Price: $495 (Non-Resicence/Local Students)
(Includes deposit, tuition and lunches)

Optional for Commuting Students: $330 Weekend Trips to Williamsburg & Busch Gardens
(Includes two nights lodging at Williamsburg, all admissions, meals an transportation)

Lead Instructor: Dr. Kathleen Patterson

Dr. Patterson Dr. Kathleen Patterson is noted as an expert on servant leadership and is involved in numerous consulting projects locally, nationally and abroad. She is an associate Professor at Regent University School of Business and Leadership.  As the lead instructor of this institute, Dr. Patterson will teach on leadership characteristics, design and review final assignments, as well as answer questions via email throughout the duration of the Institute.

Who can register?
People in high school or college from the age of 14 to17 are welcome to register for the 2013 International Youth Leadership Institute.


How much does it cost?

Residence Price: $2,500 USD
(Participants will stay on campus. This price includes the deposit, lodging, meals, tours, program materials.)
