How Online Learning Works

Class Attendance

Students “attend class” online by accessing the posted class materials and assignments online. They then read this course content along with additional information, such as links to interesting websites, articles, case studies and the assigned text. Often the professor will pose a question for discussion, which the class will then debate using the online discussion tools. Students may ask questions to each other and to the professor and participate in group activities entirely online.

Blackboard™

chalkboardWhat makes all of this possible is a tool called Blackboard™. Blackboard™ is an Internet-based communication platform, which provides students with an online learning community. Students are able to download course content (including articles, streaming audio and video, and presentations) and interact with their professors and classmates through the discussion board and the chat/virtual classroom. To view Blackboard™ firsthand, visit our Test Drive a Course. For tutorials on Blackboard™, visit the Resources section.
