Regent uses Blackboard, an online learning management system, which provides students with opportunities to participate in many online learning activities as well as build relationships with their peers and faculty in virtual community. Because both distance and on campus students access course materials online through Blackboard, it is vital that all faculty be comfortable working within the software.
Integrating seamlessly with Blackboard, Wimba Live Classroom creates a live virtual classroom. You and your students can log in at a pre-determined time for the class session or virtual office hours. Using a microphone and the Internet, you can give a lecture, go through a PowerPoint presentation and answer students' questions. Students can also use Wimba Live Classroom to collaborate synchronously on group projects. Also available in Blackboard, Wimba voice tools allow you and your students to create audio content.
The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) provides multiple opportunities for you to learn about Blackboard and other online tools through interactive tutorials in the Learning Objects database, written instructions, and facilitated online training courses. The Blackboard Certification course, offered every other month, allows you to learn about all basic and more advanced tools that you need to both teach and build courses in Blackboard. It is a four-week self-paced online training course where you will learn about the most effective techniques of using Blackboard tools, meet other instructors and share best practices, and receive ample feedback from the course instructor. By the end of Blackboard Certification course faculty build their own online course in Blackboard.
