Regent uses Blackboard, an online learning management system, which provides students with opportunities to participate in many online learning activities as well as build relationships with their peers and faculty in virtual community. Because both distance and on campus students access course materials online through Blackboard, it is vital that all faculty be comfortable working within the software.
Integrating seamlessly with Blackboard, Collaborate creates a live virtual classroom. You and your students can log in at a pre-determined time for the class session or virtual office hours. Using a microphone and the Internet, you can give a lecture, go through a PowerPoint presentation and answer students' questions. Students can also use Collaborate to work synchronously on group projects. Also available in Blackboard, Panopto allows you to do live lecture capture.
The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) provides multiple opportunities for you to learn about Blackboard and other online tools through interactive tutorials, written instructions, and facilitated online training courses. The Foundations of Teaching with Blackboard Certification introduces the basic tools and provides opportunities to demonstrate skills for effectively teaching with Blackboard Learn. Consisting of nine modules (seven core modules and two electives), this certification can be completed both on and off campus.
