Class Cancellation
Faculty are expected to hold class unless the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences makes a general announcement about class cancellation (such as in the case of inclement weather) or unless the instructor has received express permission from the Dean. Faculty are not authorized to cancel classes in advance, for any reason, without this permission. Instructors are advised to consult with their Department Chair if they anticipate their own absence from class, as soon as they know that they may need to miss class. Instructors are not authorized to invite another instructor to conduct the class without the express permission of the Department Chair.
Inclement Weather
Only Deans may cancel classes in the event of inclement weather.
Should classes be cancelled, a notice will be placed on the Regent website, with an email notice sent to all instructors. Students and faculty should use common sense in deciding whether to come to campus if there is no general cancellation if the weather is inclement near their home. If power lines are down, the road is dangerously littered, or other conditions exist which would be potentially dangerous to the driver, the individual may wish to remain at home. Instructors in that situation should contact their Department Chair, who will work with the Academic Coordinator to notify the students. Students should not be penalized if they have stayed home during dangerous conditions.
