Undergraduate Student Government Hosts 2nd Annual Talent Show

April 20, 2010

The Regent Undergraduate Council (RUC) recently organized a talent show featuring an eclectic range of performances in front of an audience of nearly 200 people. Taking home the first place cash prize of $300.00 and a trophy was a whimsical short film entitled, "Stucture," which was directed by undergraduate Cinema-Television Major, Derrick Collins. Despite the talent represented in numerous musical acts, magician Andrew Grice claimed second place, and poet Heidi Livingston took home third. Last year’s winner was a duet, who sang "The Prayer" by Andrea Bocelli, in both English and Italian.

This is one example of the numerous on-campus events sponsored by RUC to promote community. The event highlighted a wide variety of talents and performances, which included numerous musical acts, magic, video, and poetry. The event's venue, the auditorium in the Library building, was tastefully decorated in a "Hollywood-style Night at the Oscars" theme. Following the event, guests and performers mingled at a dessert reception.

"I have to say my favorite part was afterward, in the midst of cream puffs, fruit, and chocolate fountain, there erupted a spontaneous worship set in the Library balcony. I stepped back and thought, THIS is what it’s all about... I get to create events that foster community and catalyst lasting friendships between people who might not have otherwise met," said Beth Seremet, RUC’s Public Relations Officer.

The Regent Undergraduate Council, Regent's officially sanctioned undergraduate student body government, serves as a liaison between the student body, faculty, and administration in order to foster an academic environment integrated with Christian principles that enable the student body to pursue their academic goals to their fullest potential. RUC is comprised of six elected members of the Executive Board, including president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, public relations officer, and chaplain, as well as one senator from each major in the School of Undergraduate Studies.
