Study Abroad Trip: Literary England
Regent University's College of Arts & Sciences, in cooperation with Regent's Office of Global Affairs, is delighted to offer a Study Abroad Trip to London, England, and several nearby cities, including Oxford, Canterbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Bath.
Two courses will be offered in conjunction with the trip—English 377, Shakespeare, and English 475, Twentieth-century Christian Classics, which will be taught on site by Drs. Susannah Clements and Peter Fraser from RSU's English Department. Students will have the opportunity to study and interact with great literature in its own cultural context, while exploring many of the marvels of history-rich southeastern England.
Participants will visit:
- Westminster Abbey
- Canterbury Cathedral
- The Globe Theater
- Oxford University
- The British Museum
- Windsor Castle
- The Tower of London
Both on campus and online students may register for the trip and take one of the two courses; however, taking a course is not a requirement for the trip. Family members may also register for the trip, though they are not eligible to enroll in a course. Students taking either of the courses will be allowed early access to curricular materials through Blackboard.
A Substantial Savings: Regent students interested in taking a course should note that these courses are being offered at a substantial discount—only $250 per credit ($750/course), vs. the current $495 per credit ($1,485/course). Those who take a course will receive an additional $50 discount off the trip cost.
The Regent College of Arts & Sciences has also set aside eight (8) $500 academic tuition scholarships for this study abroad opportunity, reducing the course cost to only $250 for scholarship recipients. RSU academic scholarships for the trip will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for those who qualify. The maximum number of participants for the trip is limited to 20, so consider registering and applying for the scholarship soon.

Flight Arrangements: Because this trip is available to online students who live in various parts of the country, air travel is not included in the trip costs. Participants who need help identifying the best flight options can email the trip supervisor for such advice. Please review additional information about your responsibilities and for links to booking sites.
Meeting in London: Participants will be asked to meet in London at our hotel on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. local time. Detailed information will be provided to those who register for the trip. All participants should schedule their air transportation so that they arrive in time for this meeting.
London Travel: One week tube passes will be given out upon arrival for ordinary subway travel around town. Travel from London to Canterbury and other planned venues will likewise be provided via private bus, train, or tube.

- Cost of three undergraduate credits
- Lodging at comfortable London Bed and Breakfast Hotel
- One-week London tube pass

- Professional Tours and Entry at Stonehenge, Bath, Windsor Castle, and Tower

- Additional travel insurance (if not part of existing policies, it can be purchased through On Call International [approx. $55.00-$100.00]—required of all participants)
Passport Information: Valid Passports are required for travel in England. Proof of a valid passport must be provided by May 4, 2012. It can take between 4 - 6 weeks (or longer, depending on the time of year) to obtain or renew a passport, so it is imperative that you verify your existing passport or apply now. Health Advisory & Special Accommodations: All international programs can be rigorous, and some of the events may require reasonably demanding physical activities; therefore, participants should possess the ability to
- Walk one mile without rest
- Stand for 30 minutes without sitting
- Climb three flights of stairs without assistance
- Hear group instructions
- Read and understand written instructions and signs
- Step in and out of busses or shuttles
Regent University may be unable to provide special accommodations for people with disabilities. If someone needs accommodation or assistance, that person must bring a companion/assistant at full price. Also, those who have a health or mental condition that may interfere with participation in program activities, need to consult with their physician to determine if they are able to participate in a physically demanding study abroad program. Cancellation & Refund Policies: The $250 registration deposit is non-refundable, except in the case of serious extenuating circumstances (illness that precludes overseas travel, etc.); where the student's ability to attend is contingent on receiving one of the eight (8) RSU academic scholarships mentioned above; or in the case where the trip is cancelled because minimum participant registration is not met. Refunds of the remainder of any funds paid will be at 100% if the registration is cancelled prior to 5:00 p.m. on April 4, 2012. Partial refunds may be paid after the registration and payment deadline at the discretion of the trip supervisor.
Minimum and Maximum Number of Participants: Note that the minimum number of trip participants is 12 and the maximum number is 20. The trip will be cancelled should the number of registrations not reach the minimum of 12 by 5:00 p.m. on April 4, 2012. In case of such cancellation, all payments will be refunded at 100%, including the $250 registration deposit. The refund will not, however, apply to or include the travel insurance through On Call International.
