Teaching Philosophy

A strong grounding in the Scriptures is essential as I strive to effectively integrate the Christian faith with my teaching, mentoring and life. Course material is presented from a faith-seeking-understanding perspective. Education is frequently minimized to a lecture or an assignment, but it deserves much more. Shaping the heart and inner life of the student is foundational to their spiritual formation and their preparation for leadership to change the world. As a ministry practitioner for over 40 years sharing spiritual and practical lessons including failures and successes are a normal part of my lectures and interactions.

Teaching and learning is best accomplished through dedicated scholarship and an authentic professor-student relationship. This relational aspect can be actualized through a variety of methods and practices, but always focuses on serving my students with a caring and compassionate heart.

Biography

Dr. Bobby Hill was born and raised in San Marcos, Texas, and has served as a full-time minister for 41 years. His early leadership experience came from serving as a missionary in both Western and Eastern Europe. A pioneer at heart, he went on to plant three large churches in Texas prior to coming to Virginia to attend Regent University.

While living in Chesapeake, VA, he accepted the Senior Pastorate of New Life Christian Fellowship and led its growth from a little over 200 people to over 2,500 in six years as he established 7 congregations using a non-traditional multiplying model. Consequently, the church was listed among the 200 fastest growing churches in North America in 1996 and among the 100 fastest growing congregations in 1997. In 2012, Dr. Hill launched a new church in northern Suffolk, Riverbend Church. Bobby and his wife, Carrie, reside in Suffolk and have two married sons and four grandchildren. He enjoys boating, fishing, travel, reading, cooking, and golf.
