Biography
Having been involved in Christian higher education for more than half my life, I am a strong proponent of studying ones discipline from a biblical perspective. It is my deep conviction that God has designed each of us with a unique message to be discovered and communicated as a "life expression." Helping students find and/or articulate that message is what excites me about the classroom. I also agree with Alister McGrath who says, "Human words possess a capacity to function as the medium through which God is able to disclose himself and to bring about a transformational encounter with the risen Christ" (Intellectuals Don't Need God & Other Modern Myths, 1993, p. 19). That transformation can happen in a classroom, and in an institution which asks not what it means to be a communicator who is a Christian, but rather what it means to be a Christian communicator. There is a difference. That difference is why I teach at Regent University.
I'm married to my best friend, Julia, who is a Registered Nurse and mother to our three beautiful daughters. We're also expecting our first son in the Fall of '09. We've lived in Pittsburgh and Boston so I'm a Steelers and Red Sox fan. My favorite place on campus is the classroom and off campus, the beach! A favorite quote comes from the last line of the hymn "In Christ Alone" which says, "from life's first cry 'til final breath, Jesus commands my destiny."
