Final Round of the 8th Annual National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition between William & Mary School of Law and Elon University School of Law:

 

2009 Competition

On February 6 and 7, 2009, schools from across the country competed in Regent’s 8th Annual National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition. Teams were presented with a timely and challenging problem: whether incorporating the teaching of the theories of Evolution and Intelligent Design in a public high school biology class facially violates the Establishment Clause.

Each year the competition features a keynote speaker. This year Regent was honored to have Dr. Francis J. Beckwith as its keynote speaker. Dr. Beckwith is Professor of Philosophy & Church-Studies at Baylor University. He teaches in the departments of philosophy and political science as well as the J. M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies, where he served as its Associate Director from July 2003 until January 2007. He is also a Fellow and Faculty Affiliate in Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR).Featured keynote speakers at the competition banquet have included Jan Crawford Greenburg, ABC News Correspondent and scholar of the Supreme Court, Michael Newdow, pro se attorney in the Pledge of Allegiance case, Nadine Strossen, President of the American Civil Liberties Union, Paul Clement, Solicitor General of the United States, the Reverend Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
