Computer Requirements & Recommendations

While a laptop computer is not required, it can be an extremely useful tool. All classrooms are equipped with outlets for laptop use.

  • High-speed internet access is available through the Law Library.
  • Students desiring to access the LAN should install a 10BaseT Ethernet card, compatible with network interface drivers provided by Microsoft for Windows.

  • Law students who wish to use their laptops for typing exams will find minimum specifications for using the software at www.examsoft.com/regentlaw new window

Regent University School of Law Computer Requirements

Regent University School of Law permits Macs to be used on exams.

Users with Apple's Mac OSX v. 10.4.4 (Tiger) or Mac OSX v. 10.5 (Leopard) laptops can run SofTest in Windows XP or Vista installed via Apple's Boot Camp.

Sample Computer Configurations

For students acquiring a new computer after fall 2004, the following should be considered minimum configurations.

 

 

 

Basic desktop

  • Petium IV or AMD 2.0 GHz or higher processor
  • 512K L2 cache
  • 256MB SDRAM
  • 20GB 7200 rpm Ultra ATA/100 hard drive
  • 16x CD-RW or DVD-ROM drive
  • Graphics adaptr with 32MB or higher video memory
  • 17" or larger color display (CRT or LCD)
  • Built-in sound card or standard sound card
  • Speakers
  • 56K v. 92 modem or high speed internet connection (DSL or Cable Modem)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system
  • Microsoft Office XP or 2003 Standard Edition or Student and Teacher Edition
  • McAfee or Norton Antivirus software with annual update subscription
  • Laser printer or high-quality inkjet printer (printers are available to print from PCs in campus computer labs)
  • 128MB USB flash drive (use for file transfer instead of diskette)

  • Pentium IV or AMD 2.0 GHz or higher processor or Pentium M 1.4 GHz or higher processor
  • 512K L2 cach
  • 256MB SDRAM
  • 20GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive
  • 16x CD-RW or DVD-ROM drive
  • Graphics adapter with 32MB or higher video memory
  • 14.1" or larger TFT active matrix screen
  • Integrated sound
  • PC card slots
  • 56K v. 92 modem
  • Integrated 802.11b wireless network card or wireless PC Card
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system
  • Microsoft Office XP or 2003 Standard Edition or Student and Teacher Edition
  • McAfee or Norton Antivirus software with annual update subscription
  • Laser printer or high-quality inkjet printer (printers are available to print from PCs in campus computer labs)
