Q. What is the cost of tuition?
A. Tuition for the 2013-2014 year is $1,110 per credit hour or $33,300/ year.
Q. What is the yearly cost of attendance? (Cost of attendance = tuition + fees + estimated living expenses.)
A. 2013-2014 – $53,564.
Q. Is tuition different for out of state?
A. Regent is a private school, so tuition is the same for VA and non-Virginians
Q. What is the average debt for Regent Law students?
A. For 2012 graduates: Approximately $110,000.
Q. What sources of funding are available other than loans? How do I apply?
A. There are scholarship and grants available. Awards are primarily merit-based. Generally, law school awards are automatically assessed based upon the entirety of the admissions file. University endowments require a scholarship application and the deadline for submitted the applications and supporting documents is March 1 each year.
Q. Are scholarships available for first-year students?
A. Scholarships are available for first-year students (1Ls) and are based upon the entirety of the accepted student’s admissions file to include undergraduate GPA, LSAT, personal statement, letters of recommendation, etc.
Q. What are some of the obstacles incoming students encounter in receiving financial aid?
A. In order to qualify for federal loans students must not have defaulted on a student loan in the past (Stafford Loan eligibility) and must not have adverse credit history (Grad-PLUS loan eligibility). Students should check their credit reports (www.annualcreditreport.com) to ensure their reports do not reflect adverse credit.
Q. Is there assistance for room and board?
A. Federal financial aid allows for loan assistance for room, board, fees, books, and other expenses. However, scholarships and grants cannot exceed the cost of tuition.
Q. What does full tuition scholarship include? Does it include room, board, and books?
A. A full tuition scholarship only includes the cost of tuition. Assistance for room, board, fees, and other expenses is available through federal loans.
Q. What is the typical price range of housing in the Virginia Beach area?
A. $693/mo. for single student on-campus housing (assumes a roommate) or $934/mo. for married couple housing for a 2 bedroom/1 bath on-campus.
Q. What percentage of student receive financial aid?
A. 99% students received financial aid for 2012-2013.
Q. What are the eligibility requirements for scholarships? What are the minimum scores needed?
A. Academic merit scholarships begin at LSAT of 156 and UGPA of 3.0.but other scholarships and grants may be available for leadership, public service, and other factors.
Q. What can I do besides GPA and LSAT scores to improve my chances of getting assistance?
A. Review credit reports for adverse credit.
Q. Does Regent Law participate in the Yellow Ribbon program?
A. Yes. Regent Law offers a Yellow Ribbon $8,000 matching award.
