Congratulations - you have made it to graduation! We are excited that you have decided to join us for the 2014 RSG Commissioning Service.
The Robertson School of Government Commissioning Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in Moot Courtroom located in Robertson Hall with a reception following in the Library Atrium.
We are often asked, "What is the difference between Commissioning and Commencement?" Most of you are familiar with Commencement, which is the actual graduation ceremony.
The Commissioning Service usually occurs a day or two before Commencement (or "graduation"). The Commissioning Service is a special time for worship, consecration, reflection, and prayer.
The venue and format of the service varies for each school, but for RSG it consists of a time in which RSG professors and staff honor the graduating class and "commission" its members. It's also a time for us to recognize outstanding members of the graduating class with certain awards for scholarship, leadership, research and service.
Commissioning is sometimes called the "Hooding Service": each member of the graduating class walks across the stage and receives the hood that he or she will wear the next day at graduation.
Following the one hour service, a reception is held for members of the graduating class and their special guests. You must RSVP for this reception as it is "by invitation only."
We look forward to seeing you there.
