
Dr. Charles Neimeyer

Dr. Charles Neimeyer is an adjunct faculty member at the Robertson School of Government. Prior to coming to Regent in the summer of 2004, Dr. Neimeyer was the former Dean of Academics at the Naval War College and Forrest Sherman Chair of Public Diplomacy in Newport, Rhode Island and served for a short period of time as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Valley Forge Military Academy & College in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Prior to his stint as Academic Dean at the Naval War College, he was a full time professor of National Security Affairs from 1997-2002. He also previously served as an award winning history professor at the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Central Oklahoma where he was named Liberal Arts “Outstanding Professor of the Year.” Dr. Neimeyer brings to the classroom extensive experience in national security affairs, counter terrorism, and international relations. During his time as a military officer, Dr. Neimeyer served in a variety of posts and stations during his 20 year career in the Marine Corps, including tours in all three active Marine Divisions. During 1991 to 1993 he served as a strategic planner for the White House Military Office for both the George H. W. Bush and Clinton administrations and earned the Presidential Service Badge and the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service on the President’s military staff. While on active duty, he also earned a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in History (with distinction) from Georgetown University, and an additional Masters Degree from the Naval War College, where he graduated with highest honors. He retired from the Marines in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Neimeyer has authored a variety of history and national security affairs articles and has published in 1996 the widely acclaimed monograph, America Goes to War: A Social History of the Continental Army, 1775 – 1783, by the New York University Press. He is presently at work on a second monograph, The Everyday Life of Revolutionary War Soldiers, to be published by Greenwood Press later this year.
He is married to the former Janet Louise Bell of Bethesda, Maryland and they have three children together and now two wonderful grandchildren. |
