Michael D. Kelly, B.S., M.A., Ed.D.
Dr. Kelly is currently a full time assistant professor here at Regent University in the School of Education, and the Department of Educational Leadership. Prior to this appointment he was the principal of Lynnhaven Middle School in Virginia Beach VA, where he held this position for 6 years. Lynnhaven is a comprehensive middle school housing grades 6 - 8, with approximately 1200 students. Under Dr. Kelly’s supervision, the school was identified as a "National Middle School to Watch" by the Virginia Department of Education and the National Middle School Association. Lynnhaven also was given “The Award of Excellence” by the National PTA for its outstanding parental involvement.
Dr. Kelly dedicated 17 years to public school education, all in the Virginia Beach City Public School system. Prior to his position as a principal, he served as an assistant principal at two schools, was a middle school teacher for eight years, and a wrestling coach as well. During his tenure as a teacher he wrote the grade 6 advanced mathematics curriculum for the school system.
Dr. Kelly is a certified assessor for the NASSP’s 21st Century Principals program. This nationally recognized program trains administrators in the best practices of their chosen profession. During his time as a principal, Dr. Kelly was elected as the President of the Virginia Beach Association of Secondary School Principals. The VBASSP represents approximately 130 secondary administrators system wide.
Dr. Kelly enjoys skiing, golfing, fishing at the lake, and spending time with family and friends. He has been blessed to be married to his lovely wife for sixteen years. They have two daughters, ages 14 and 10. View Dr. Kelly's vita>>
