In the summer of 2005, God allowed me to teach English in Chengdu, China which began God's calling for me to teach English as a Second Language. The message in Colossians 4:3-6 spoke to me that I needed to learn how to make the most of every opportunity to share Christ with diverse cultures and languages. While my undergraduate degree provided me basic foundations in teaching English as a Second Language, I knew I needed more training. I discovered that Regent University had an M. Ed. in TESOL to Adults and Pre-K though 12th grade and I applied immediately. Within a year of being in the M. Ed. TESOL program, God opened the door for my husband and me to move to Guam to teach at a Christian school; however, I was able to continue classes across the world because of Regent's online program.
Regent's M. Ed. in TESOL program has prepared me so that I am able to organize and run the ESL courses at my school. Regent's TESOL professors assign the most applicable projects, which have helped me with planning lessons, selecting curriculum, and creating assessments as well as with conducting several teacher-in-service sessions for my school. I have approximately sixty-two ESL students ranging from K-5 through 11th grade every year, and because of the training I received at Regent I am able to share the Gospel with them and meet their language needs each day. Regent has helped me achieve my personal goal of sharing Christ to those who have never heard, and my professional goal of being an ESL teacher to many students of diverse languages and cultures. I am thankful for Regent's excellent professors and what they have taught me, and I look forward to utilizing the knowledge and skills I have learned for the further development of the ESL programs on the island of Guam.
