Revisiting the Charismatic Renewal, 1960-2010:
50th Anniversary Reflections and Anticipations
Tuesday: March 2, 2010
"A Protestant, Catholic, and Non-Denominational Reflection on the Charismatic Renewal: Where We Have Been and Where we are Going?"
Location: Library Auditorium
Time: 3:00-5:00 PM
Synopsis: The Charismatic Movement exploded in the 1960s, catalyzed by the life and ministry of Dennis Bennett (1917-1991) at St. Luke's Episcopal parish in the Pacific Northwest. It was not a flash in the pan, shot in the arm, or a will of the wisp. It was and still is a delivery system to over 40% of the church, a delivery system long overdue, a delivery system of Azusa St to the rest of the ecumenical, Catholic, and Orthodox world. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, the flame of the renewal has spread to some 600 million people in Asia, Africa, and the Global South. Today's lecturers reflect on the history of the renewal and explore what's next for the next generation of the renewal.
