Regent Alumni Tributes - Late Dr. Charles L. Holman (page 4)
I recall Dr. Holman playing the violin in FBCN church orchestra. He played with focused attention, but relaxed. He displayed at attitude of worship as he offered his talent to the Lord. I am confident God smiled with pleasure as he heard the Dr. Holman violin lift up praise. Later I learned that Dr. Holman was a professor at Regent University. As a Doctor of Ministry student I visited with Dr. Holman from time to time on campus. Once again his gentle, kind spirit came shining through. He is truly one of God's special people. I am grateful for the influence he has had on so many people. We are the faces unknown to you. Dr. Holman will hold a special place in my memory. God bless you with His peace.
Dr. Charles Holman had a profound impact on my life with his careful, diligent approach to Bible Study. His gentle, yet direct, way of communicating helped me grasp concepts of studying God's Word that I had not before understood. My depth of study in the Word is much greater because of his dedication to his students, his intellect, and his devotion to the Lord. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us.
I will always remember Dr. Holman as a strong, gentle and caring man of God. I was an honor and blessing to be able to sit under his teaching. He was an integral part of Regent and touched the lives of many students including mine. He will be greatly missed.
There was never a time that I saw Dr. Holman that he didn't offer a kind word, a tight cornered smile and a sense of urgency to go deeper into the scriptures. I'll never forget his walk - always so youthful and scholarly. Every class was as if we were sitting at the feet of Jesus. How marvelous are the treasures hidden in the scriptures! He taught us to search for them like water to a thirsty soul. I couldn't wait for the next class, to sit under his inspiring, insightful, scholarly and wisdom filled teaching. He indelibly touched my life and now my children's lives. Heaven has gained one of earth's best!!!
Dear Rose,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. He has touched my life in a very special way. Arlene & I were honored and tickled that he performed our wedding. The time we spent with you two for dinner was delightful and will always be a fond memory for us. Rose, there is a time and a season for everything. Unfortunately, this is your winter. Be strong and don’t lose your beautiful smile and laugh. With it, you bless so many people. We love you.
I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to Rose and Dr. Holman. Dr. Holman really welcomed me when I came to Regent. I first met him at the preview weekend.
Even then I felt the gentleness. I was actually scared to take his classes because one hears through the grapevine how hard it is, but Dr. Holman was willing to work with us. Also, Dr. Holman supported me and encouraged me when I wanted to pursue my internship with Joni Earekson Tada. More recently, you both have blessed my recent wedding and I shall always treasure the note and signature in the book you gave. I send love and many prayers.
I am sorry to hear that we will no longer have Dr. Charles Holman to give us the benefit of his tremendous wisdom and knowledge. I know that He is at peace with God. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. He was one of the persons that God used to let me know that I had been called of God and that I could do the work at Regent. He was always encouraging and He always asked about my health. I will miss his ever-ready smile and his easy laughter. Gospel of Grace Church of God in Christ is praying for his wife and family. I ask the Lord to keep them in the hollow of His hand.
I'm sorry to hear about Dr. Holman's passing away. He is in a much better place - praise the Lord! I had him for "Unity of the Bible" modular and I can clearly remember many of the students in the class and Dr. Holman's teaching. It was one that was recorded for the Distance Education Course. He was exceptionally thorough and presented the teaching well. He was a personable man who cared for his students. He had a unique sense of humor. One day, a student mention about the church and suffering that we may encounter. He quickly interjected, "Suffering! Oooooooooh, I thought we were passed that!" God has used him and he was faithful to be used by God to the very end. He will be missed until we see him again in heaven.
I studied with Dr. Holman in the 80’s. He was a kindly man, and the thing I remember most is that he helped discipline me to always look for the context for any Scripture studied. He was a fine man and ran a good race. He will be missed.
Dr. Holman was a calm for me, a rock for me when I felt uncertain and intimidated starting graduate school. I always knew He was close to the heart of God; he made me feel God's presence. Even though he served as my supervising professor, he only made me feel like I was his friend. I loved that about him. For ministry preparation, his Principles of Bible Study class truly fueled my passion for teaching God's Word to people who don't understand it. I miss him already.
Dr. Holman's teaching and training in his Bible Study Methods class dramatically changed the way I read and study the Bible. My devotional life and my pastoral ministry have been deeply affected by his style of examining the Scriptures. I will be forever grateful for his heartfelt input, caring posture towards all his students, and deep respect for the Scriptures.
