From Dr. Vinson Synan (former Dean of the School of Divinity)
Dr. Charles Holman, Professor of Biblical Interpretation and New Testament in the School of Divinity, was one of the most respected and beloved professors in the history of Regent University. Coming to Regent in 1982, he was one of the founding faculty members of the School of Divinity. Throughout his tenure at Regent, he left a mark on the school that will never be forgotten.
With degrees from Westmont College, and Fuller Theological Seminary, he went on to earn the Ph.D. degree at the University of Nottingham, in England, where he studied under Dr. James Dunn. Dr. Holman was an excellent teacher as well as a distinguished scholar. His many published articles spread his reputation far beyond the campus of Regent University. In addition to his accomplishments in the classroom and his publications, Dr. Holman served with distinction for many years as Chairman of the Divinity Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Holman was the quintessential professor with a passion for teaching and for upholding the highest academic standards. He had been awarded the Divinity Professor of the Year Award for 1996-97 and Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Regent in 2003. Above all, Charles Holman was a man of utter sincerity and transparency.
