Am I a Qualified Applicant?

To ensure that you meet the minimal requirements to apply to the School of Divinity as either a master's level or doctoral student , please select the desired degree below to see a list of requirements and criteria needed to make application.

Master's Level Programs (M.A. & M.Div.)
Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Master's Level Programs (M.A. & M.Div.)

To be considered for acceptance into the master's programs at the School of Divinity, the following is required by the ATS (The Association of Theological Schools) and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges & Schools):

  • a completed four-year bachelor's degree (in any field) from a regionally accredited, post-secondary institution or an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

    Applicants with a bachelor's degree from a non-regionally accredited institution will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In addition, the following criteria are considered of applicants to the School of Divinity's master's level programs:

  • a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • high intellectual achievement and scholarship as evidenced by college transcripts and the applicant's writing sample
  • spiritual maturity and integrity of character
  • personal goals consistent with the mission of Regent University
  • positive recommendation from a clergy member

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.)

To be considered for acceptance into the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) program at the School of Divinity, the following is required by ATS (Association of Theological Schools):

  • a completed Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree (or an equivalent theological master's degree of at least 72 credit hours) from an ATS accredited, graduate institution

    Applicants from non-ATS accredited schools will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Note: Those interested in the program who have a Master of Arts with less than 72 credit hours but no M.Div. may wish to consider the Advanced Courses in Theological Studies (A.C.T.S.) as a prerequisite for application. Doctor of Ministry students may only enter the program during the fall semester.

In addition, the following criteria are considered of applicants to the School of Divinity's Doctor of Ministry program:

  • a cumulative master's degree GPA of at least 3.0
  • currently active in church or parachurch ministry context
  • high intellectual achievement and scholarship as evidenced by college transcripts and the applicant's writing sample
  • spiritual maturity, integrity of character and willingness to grow as a leader
  • personal goals consistent with the mission of Regent University
  • positive recommendation from a clergy member

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

To be considered for acceptance into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program at the School of Divinity, the following is required by ATS (Association of Theological Schools):

  • a completed M.Div. degree or masters-level equivalent (e.g., M.A., MRE, MACE) with a minimum of 72 credit hours from an ATS accredited, graduate institution, or a first graduate theological degree providing equivalent theological background.

In addition, the following criteria are considered of applicants to the School of Divinity's Doctor of Philosophy program:

  • a cumulative master's GPA of at least 3.5
  • two positive faculty recommendations
  • satisfactory GRE scores from within the past 5 years
  • a desire and ability to write a dissertation from a Renewal perspective in the area of biblical studies, Christian theology or global Christian history
  • high aptitude for scholarly research & writing as well as reading comprehension
  • high intellectual achievement and scholarship as evidenced by college transcripts and the applicant's writing sample
  • spiritual maturity and integrity of character
  • personal goals consistent with the mission of Regent University
  • positive recommendation from a clergy member

Students will be required to competently use the language(s) in which relevant primary texts are written, as well as those in which there is important secondary material during both their course of studies and their dissertation research. This includes at least one ancient and one or more modern languages.
