Using Your Electronic Portfolio

When should you use your portfolio? The best time to use your portfolio is when you would like to present your work or skills to a current or prospective employer. Here are some examples of ways to use your portfolio:

  • Present a showcase of accomplishments completed in a degree program (i.e. - during a final presentation or examination).
  • Present it during a semi-annual or annual employee review process as examples of your work.
  • Include your portfolio on a CD with your resume and cover letter when you apply for positions. This method is a great way to separate yourself from the pack.
  • Bring your portfolio to your interview. Make the portfolio obvious upon entering the room, either by placing it on the interview table when shaking the interviewer's hand, or by showing the portfolio and asking if the interviewer would like to examine it now or later.
  • Present your portfolio when a question is raised during the interview about a skill that can be answered with "proof" in your portfolio. This is a great method to reveal the rest of the contents of your portfolio.
  • Use on a business website to obtain clients or customers.
