Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision Requirements


The Doctoral Program in Counselor Education and Supervision (DPCES) is unique in several ways: it provides advanced counselor education and training from the Judeo-Christian perspective, and it is the first PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program in the nation to be offered fully online. The DPCES values the incorporation of technology throughout its curriculum and learning environment.

This portfolio site has been created to help you, the student understand and articulate your educational experiences, see the connections between the parts of your doctoral education, collect your significant academic and experiential work in one place, develop long-term goals and plans that give coherence and direction to your education, and learn relevant technical skills.

Completion of the e-portfolio demonstrates your ability to learn and integrate new technology into your professional development. It also is a tool which demonstrates your competency in various areas. Your eportfolio must integrate working and easily navigational links to and from the home page. All items are mandatory unless indicate as optional. Download Printable Checklist.

Professional Identity

  • Curriculum Vita (Resume also if desired) which is viewable and also printable.
  • Statement of Teaching Philosophy (one page maximum).
  • Professional Contact page.
  • Integrative Statement of Theory and Faith (one page maximum).
  • Case presentation of an ethical dilemma of your creation.

Professional Presentations

  • Several Class Presentations in PowerPoint and with video clips if available.
  • Sample video clip of Individual/Group/Marriage Counseling Workshops or teaching presentations.

Optional: Professional presentations, papers or PowerPoint's from outside of the program. If video included, permissions or releases from participants to include video in eportfolio.Permissions or releases from others who participated in the development of any components of your eportfolio such as presentations or syllabi.

Professional Development

  • Example Syllabus/Syllabi for a CACREP core course.
  • 10 week Group or 8 week Marriage Counseling Program which you developed.
  • Supervisor evaluations from group practicum and internship (once completed).
  • Memberships and Affiliations.
  • Praxis Course evaluations and reviews if applicable.

Papers/Publications

  • Dissertation Proposal (once completed).
  • Scholarly papers completed for all doctoral level course work including: Research Methods, Theories, Supervision, Adv. Group, Adv. Assessment, Adv., Multicultural Statistics, Adv. Marriage and Family, Instruction in CE, and Elective courses.

Optional: Papers or other work submitted for Publication

Professional Assessments/Consultations

  • Sample Case Assessment and conceptualization.
  • Sample Genogram of Family System.
  • Program Evaluation Report of Consultation

Additional Elements:

  • Professional Picture.
  • Brief two paragraph professional autobiographical sketch (one page maximum).
  • Links to additional related resources or associations.

Optional: Original creative works pertaining to the counseling field.
